"Well?" I bit the side of my mouth, this situation wasn't good. I was at the mere edge of losing it and giving up, completely. It was time.
I slammed my cards down and stood up, laughing at Nishinoya who looked down at my cards with huge puppy eyes as he began to cry. He placed his cards down and started whining.
"OI! SHUT UP!" We both froze as a voice roared from the kitchen. Daichi came from around the corner, pointing the spatula at us angrily. We both sank back onto the floor quietly.
Hinata smiled and stuck his tongue out at Tsukki, who was crushing his cards in his hands. Kageyama was still trying to figure out how to play, with Suga struggling to teach him. Yamaguchi passed out on the couch, wrapped like a burrito with a blanket.
I leaned against Hinata, "It's getting late, I should get going."
"What?" They all looked at me.
"Daichi is still making dinner," Suga said.
"One more round!" Nishinoya exclaimed.
I shook my head, "I'm opening the bookstore tomorrow, so I have to be up early."
"I'm sure Daichi is almost done," Hinata said, "You can take it to-go." There was no arguing with them, so I stayed just a little.
Hinata got his to-go too, so he could walk me home. The walk was quiet, no cars roamed the streets. I stared at the ground most of the time, watching my dirty shoes meet the ground. "What are you planning to do now?"
"Finish my classes, find a business to work at, go from there."
He was silent for a few seconds, "Is that what you really want?"
I hesitated, "W-Well yeah."
He shook his head, "Y/N." He grabbed my hand to stop me from walking. "I know you more than anyone here. I know you avoid problems and that's how you cope-"
"Shut up," I glared at him, "Please just shut up for once."
"And I also know you hate being called out for things you've been avoiding," he smiled half heartedly, "This hurts me too you know." I did know.
Him and Kenma were the perfect duo. Hinata thought it was perfect that his two best friends were dating, and it seemed perfect for the first couple of years.
We sat at a bench. "He hasn't contacted me since. He's been avoiding me at all costs. I even visited the apartment and Kuroo always says that he's out." He glanced at me, "I'm worried about you. I don't think living alone is good for you right now."
After finding out, I immediately went to the office of the college and placed a request for a dorm room. It got accepted and I quickly moved out from the apartment. Kenma and I didn't speak a word to each other, luckily he stayed in the guest room during the time I was moving my things.
"I'm fine."
"I'll find an apartment for the both of us, with open windows just the way you like it. We can get a cat too, since-"
"Yeah." I said, "Okay."
"Okay?"
I nodded, "I should get to the dorms soon."
We walked to the dorms and I said goodbye as I entered the room. I carefully got ready for bed and went to sleep.
I woke up before the sun was up, and changed into new clothes before walking out the door. I walked past a couple of stores before making it to the bookstore. I fished the keys out and paused, turning around and looking at the arcade across the street. I blinked at it, then proceeded to open the bookstore up.
Hours passed of me selling books and helping people around. I sat at my desk, sifting through emails and sending a few. There was a slight knock on the desk, and I looked up.
I tilted my head, "Kuroo?"
He flashed his known charmer smile, "Hello Y/N."
I smiled back, "What are you doing here?"
"I miss my old roommate," he frowned, looking down at me.
I laugh a little, "Yeah, I bet you do."
"Not funny." That made me laugh a little more.
"How's Phoenix?"
"Haven't seen him actually," Kuroo leaned against the desk, "Kenma locks himself in the room, and I'm pretty sure Phoenix is with him."
"Please make sure he gets fed and drinks enough water," I turned back to the computer.
"I was actually gonna ask about that, why didn't you take Phoenix with you? I'm sure the college allows pets in the dorms."
I paused my typing. I couldn't tell him how much I love Phoenix, but he reminded me too much of Kenma. Hinata was right, I like to avoid my problems. And sadly, Phoenix would bring those problems to the surface.
I shook my head, "I want to focus on studying right now, so I don't have time to take care of a pet."
"Ah I see," Kuroo nodded, "Marketing major right? I heard it's one of the most difficult majors."
"You heard correctly then," I nodded. "Super stressful."
He didn't say anything, and just seemed to stare at me. I didn't look at him because I was too busy finishing the last email that was meant to be sent. After I finished, I sighed in relief, leaning back on the chair. I realized Kuroo was still in the same spot, "Oh, did you need something?"
"Wanna go get a drink?"
I took a deep breath, "Kuroo, no. I'm way too busy."
"Come on, it's one drink!"
I shook my head, "I have a project due next week and want to get ahead of it."
"Next week then? After your project?"
"Sure, fine, whatever." I tried to shoo him away but he just frowned.
"You used to like me so much, what happened?"
I hesitated, before standing up. I got close to his face, "Lay off, Tetsurou."
"Changing names now?" He smirked, "Come on Y/N, you know me better than that."
I glared at him, before smiling, "Your charms don't work on me." I sat back in my chair, "I'll think about next week, but it's an automatic no if you keep getting onto me about it."
He shrugged, "As long as it's not a no, I'm happy. See you later Y/N!" He walked out of the store, letting my slouch in relaxation. I blinked, confused about why he said "see you later".
