This chapter will explain why Colton's grandpa did what he did.

Chapter 29

They stood there for 5 minutes. When she came to the realisation that they do need to talk after all, she pushed his arms away and turned around to look at him, ready for the talk. But a tender expression crossed his face. An expression she'd never seen on him. He looked as lost as she felt, as lonely and in need of love too.

"I don't hate you," Anna explained softly under her breath, referring to the texts that he's been sending. She continued, "I just need more time,"

She sat on the couch quietly, motioning Colton to sit beside her. But instead, he knelt down in front of her so he is at eye level with her.

"I'm sorry," his voice was soft, almost fragile, as if his heart would literally break any minute. But his heart was already broken a year ago. It's never been healed. He can't even remember the last time he smiles or laughs genuinely until that day when they went out on a date.

He was stupid for believing that Anna would sleep with anyone for money. He was stupid for not listening when she tried to explain. He hurt Anna, the one person who vowed to love him forever. The only person in this world who genuinely loves him and cares about him and now, he is not even sure if Anna is ever going to forgive him.

"I should have known better. I'm so sorry," His words broke up and all he could say were stuttering sounds. Hot tears starts streaming down his face, and he squeezed his eyelids shut in hope that his tears would stop.

It made Anna's heart swell with sadness and remorse. She did not know what he was referring to but she knew she made a mistake. She should not have left him back then. She thought it could hurt him lesser but now, he's hurting more. They are both hurting.

"I'm sorry I said those words and hurt you, I'm sorry, so sorry. I'm an idiot, Anna," Colton said between sobs and Anna shook her head.

No, love. I was the one hurting you. It was my fault. Anna thought.

Anna kissed his forehead softly and placed a hand gently upon his cheek, caressing it with her thumb. Her mood swings are confusing. Just a few moments ago, she did not want to see this man. And now, she wished she could wake up to his face every morning.

"I need to tell you something, Colton,"

She needs to tell him the truth.

"I know, love. I made a mistake. I know it was my grandpa. I should have checked. I should have looked deeper. I was stupid to believe him," this man, kneeling in front of her, is beating himself internally.

"I won't let him hurt you again. I promise. Please give me another chance. I'll always believe you. Whatever you say," he was desperate now.

"Really?" Anna asked and he nodded immediately.

"So if I say the sun rises from the west, you will believe me too?"

"What?" Colton asked, feeling a little dumbfounded now. He gave her a strange look.

That's stupid, Anna. Asking this question in the middle of all these. She shook her head. She just wanted to lighten up the mood around them, his mood.

"I'm sorry too. I made that decision myself. For the both of us. Although I hated your grandpa at one point, but he was right about something. You do need someone who is capable. Someone with a better family background, higher education, better quality in life. And I have none of that,"

"You're you. I want nothing more. You're the only one I want. I love you so much. I never stopped loving you. When you left, I hate that I still love you so much. I hate that I can't bring myself to hate you even when I try to. I'm lost without you," he confessed.
