My lips curved up slightly, finding his clumsy-ness oddly cute. "Careful. There's a very innocent looking plant by the window. I don't think he's ready to die just yet."

Ryder was not amused. But he did manage to get the window open without damaging anything else. He knelt in front of me again, soaking a cotton pad in alcohol. "This is going to sting," he warned before applying the pad to my open wound.

It was probably a good thing he was holding my wrist to keep me in place because I tried to yank my hand back the second the alcohol made contact with my flesh. "Ow!" I exaggerated.

"I tried to warn you!"

"'It's gonna sting'" I mocked in a child's voice. The burning settled down quickly, leaving the two of us to mock each other in peace.

My laughter quickly died down as I spotted the dried blood caked into Ryder's red shirt. "I got blood on your shirt."

His voice softened. "It's okay, I didn't like this shirt anyway."

It's his favorite color, of course he liked that shirt. "I got it on the floor too, and the counter." I didn't understand, he didn't look mad. Why wasn't he mad? He should be mad. Shouldn't he?

"I'll clean it up. No permanent damage." He picked up my hand. "Except maybe to your finger, it looks bad enough to scar."

Great, another one to add to the collection.

Ryder added some fancy antibacterial cream to my finger before bandaging it up. "What's your favorite color?" I tried to change the subject, despite the fact that I already knew the answer. It was pretty obvious.

He glanced up, his glasses slipping slightly, giving me a clear view of his eyes. They were like Alexia's, except, brighter, especially when he smiled. Did I know he had green eyes? I feel like I knew that. Or perhaps I didn't, though I can't fathom how I never noticed. They were captivating, like emeralds, but not emeralds. Emeralds were too cliche to describe him. They were like the chrome tourmaline Sonny, Klaus, and I found while playing with one of those mining kits—we must have spent hours with that thing identifying every single gemstone—that's what his eyes looked like.

"Blue," he answered.

What? I raised my eyebrow, glancing at all of the red that surrounded me. Blue? Even his toothbrush is red. "Blue?"

He nodded.

Maybe he's colorblind. "Well you have to be more specific. What kind of blue? Like I said I liked sea foam green like when the mermaid dissolved, you have to be specific, like that," I pried, trying to figure out if he was about to tell me blue like the color of a fire truck, or a rose, or a ruby.

He paused for a moment to think. "The kind of blue you'd find in the middle of the ocean under a full moon. That kind of blue."

So he's not color blind.

Ryder finished securing the bandage. "Come on, I think we agreed on the couch, right?" He tried to lighten the mood.

"Right."

That's where we stayed the entire night, the mess left in the kitchen as a problem for another time. I told Ryder a million times that I would clean it up but he wouldn't let me, insisting that he would do it later. So instead, we laid together on the couch, me reading and him watching television. And when the night was over and I got in the car, I called Klaus immediately. "Your sister is an idiot," I blurted the second he picked up the phone.

His voice was still groggy, letting me know I'd just woken him up. "Tell me something I don't know."

"Rude."

"Did something happen with Ryder?"

That's all it took before I was blabbing the whole story, telling my brother of how dumb Ryder must think I am.

And Klaus, clearly not happy about it but that's beside the point, listened to every word of it because he was my big brother and he did care about me. He cared.

Hi lovies!
What do we think?

I like it, but I don't. Is it too much fluff? Bc the next chapter is sorta fluff too and I kinda feel like it's a lot but also, can you have too much fluff?

Anyway, I hope your days are going better than mine. First day of school, yay. It's only period one and the only thing I've got going for me is that I look great. As for everything else, I am lost, hungry, bored, and tired.

But...I'm hoping to get a lot of writing done in between classes so hopefully I can get the next chapter out quickly.

Lots of love,
