~Jeremy's POV~

Jeremy looked up at the blood-red sky, his eyes and feeling like they're on fire because of how little exposure he got to the sun these days. A hiss escaped his bloody and beaten lips, his arm coming up to shield his eyes. This was not as fun as he remembered zombie apocalypses being in video games. He was definitely not lucky to be alive right now.

Since the government had put out a statement making the entirety of New Jersey go into panic Jeremy Heere and his best friend Michael Mell have been beside each other, not leaving the other under any circumstance. The reason why everyone went into panic was because no one knew how to deal with a zombie apocalypse because no one thought it would happen! A zombie apocalypse was just something for a crappy movie plot or video game idea, not supposed to be real. No one even knows how it started, everyone is just trying to deal with it.

Shaking off his thoughts, Jeremy shut the door behind him and scanned the area he knew as his home town which was now in ruin. It looked even worse than Hyrule did after Calamity Ganon made his appearance. He looked around at the rubble spewed around the roads, the light posts leaning onto one another. Jeremy had never paid too much attention to the birds that used to sing their little melodies in the mornings but the birds no longer sang their tiny melodies.

His best friend since kindergarten Michael Mell stood beside his side, looking out over the barren wasteland. One thing that had been eating at him was the fact that there could be no other survivors. Jeremy hasn't heard from anyone from his school. Not Jenna, Christine, Chloe, Brooke, Jake, or Rich. Not even a word. No rumours. No nothing. Jeremy's Dad and Michael's moms were still alive but they don't leave the house much after what's been going on since Michael and Jeremy took on the responsibility of keeping them alive by going outside.

He and his best friend have both sustained multiple injuries, Michael's more severe than Jeremy's. He had a huge and infected gash on his leg, small cuts and scratches littered his entire face and arms. Jeremy had bruises all over his face, a cut on his cheek that went deep into the skin. Those were the injures Jeremy had that Michael knew about but there was one injury that Jeremy sustained that Michael didn't know about.

Flashback to around a week earlier when this apocalypse had just started. Jeremy had gone out to go scavenge for food when Michael was resting. He left in almost mere perfect condition and came back with some bruises on his neck, a bite mark that he had covered up with some makeup so Michael wouldn't worry. The bite hadn't gotten too into the skin and he had disinfected it before he got home. Now, Jeremy knew hiding the fact that he got bitten by a zombie from Michael wasn't the best choice to do but he didn't want to lose Michael. The next day rolled around and the mark had turned into a normal bruise and none of the effects were showing. Jeremy thought he was okay, not even sure if the bite broke the skin.

Michael was obviously worried for his best friend, trying to treat the wounds his best friend sustained. He didn't even notice the patch of skin that was a bit darker than the rest of Jeremy's skin. This obviously relieved Jeremy but there was still that part of him that couldn't help but feel guilty that he was hiding it from Michael, his best friend of twelve years. But in Jeremy's mind, it was best to hide it then tell Michael and risk losing him potentially forever.

~Michael's POV~

Michael followed behind Jeremy, doing his best to ignore the throbbing pain in his leg. He didn't remember when he'd gotten the injury, time was no longer relevant in his mind when the two were just trying to live day to day, doing their best to stay alive, but if he had to guess it was probably around a week ago.
