Part 2: The day it all fell to pieces

Eren mumbled something, you decided to ignore it and continue home...

That was until the bell started ringing.

"The scouting regiment is back! Y/N, Mikasa! let's go see the heroes return!"

Eren started sprinting off in the direction of the gate.

You and Mikasa looked towards each other. 

"There's no stopping him..."

Mikasa merely "Hmm'd" in return and you both started chasing after Eren.

Eren's face fell, you merely looked away, Mikasa looked on.

Eren should have known by now what joining the scout entails, but he was still determined to be with them.

You tugged on Eren's arm as you pulled him away.

"Look, I know there's no hope from stopping you becoming a soldier, I wanna be one too, but promise me this, if you don't get top 10, please join the Garrisons." You looked Eren in the eyes, he looked away for a moment before responding.

"A-alright..."

"Thank you... C'mon, we should head home, Mom and Dad will get worried soon."

You grabbed Mikasa's attention and told her that you were going home, she nodded and started to follow you.

"We're home!" You called out, your parents turned to you.

"Welcome back." Your mother called.

You placed your wood into the box and helped Eren unload his.

"Did Eren actually work hard today?" Your mother asked.

"No, me and Mikasa got his wood while he slept."

"Y/N!" Eren muttered.

"No matter, the wood's here and that's what's important."

Your mother placed some food on the table.

"Eat up, lunch is ready."

"You're leaving for work again dad?"

"Yeah, some check-ups in the interior, I'll be back in a few days."

"You're away more then you're at home dad."

"Hmm, I see."

You continued to eat in silence.

"Eren wants to join the Scouting Regiment." Mikasa mentioned.

"WHAT?!" Carla yelled, she rushed over to Eren.

"WHAT ARE YOU THINKING!?! DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE DIED OUTSIDE THOSE WALLS?!?"

"Calm down mom, I managed to convince him not to join if he's not one of the top 10 cadets!"

"Eren, why do you want to join the scouts?"

Eren looked towards his father before responding.

"I want to see the outside world, people who are ignorant enough to want to live inside the walls are fools if you ask me, on top of that, if nobody takes their place then all the scouts who died out there died for nothing! Not that it matters since that stupid promise Y/N forced me into..."

"Hmm, when I get back, I'll show you and Y/N what's in the basement."

You looked towards your father, this was the most sudden shift in mood you had ever experienced.
