My fascination over religion and the concept of good and evil got the best of me. As I became more 'religious' the more I thought of the other side. The demons, the devil and hell, but it was never a manifestation of villainy, that phase was over, it was more of making metaphors and sugar-coated meanings of the taboos we have in religion. And I somehow touched upon that, making correlation with concepts of the underworld and the real world. I was ridiculed by using such a weird and unaccustomed word, 'incubus'. If you may not know, its a male evil spirit that has sexual intercourse on persons in their sleep, and there has been a misconception that gays like us only wants sex and not real affectionate love. So I wanted to use that concept as the album title.
The more that I write the more that I realize that I was not writing poetry or in a way to write poetry. I wrote them to be embodied as songs with individual or interconnected stories within the album or continued on in the next ones. The reason why I write is because I want other people to know what I think about and what I imagine in a daily basis. And the real reason I decided to write 'poetry' is really I was inspired of how much detail and emotion Taylor Swift's lyricism has, no other words to say. It may seem anticlimactic to say that but it's true, I was fascinated of how she write and I wanted to do that too but not in her way but in my way, how I wanted to write, and what I should write about.
There are two sides in this album, the first one has 6 songs and the other has 7, the first side is 'Side A: Succubus' which is the female counterpart of an incubus. This is all about the struggles of a woman and how the world perceives them with objectification. They have to endure the misogyny and the state of being sexualized in different scales and areas. The heartbreak, sexual assaults, molestation and rape victims. I dedicate this whole side to them in my own point of view. The other side is 'Side B: Incubus' which is all about the struggles of the LGBTQ+ Community in the hands of the world, from basic equal rights, respect and treatment. While continuing a timeline from the bitter beginning to the happily ever after we dreamed.
Also a reminder that I wrote this album without any melodic composition so that it will not restrict my writing abilities in the process. I know it sounds ridiculous to write a song without any sound or melody but the purpose I wrote them as songs is because I wanted to use the labels (such as chorus, verse, bridge, pre-chorus etc.) to redirect my writing to the appropriate tone and mood. This album is the longest to write, and this is the most fun and exciting writing journey I ever had. So fun that I wanted to expand the universe I created, the deluxe version will be released next week with 3 new songs I wrote after the 13 original ones. I had fun writing this album so I hope you will too.
