He pressed his body closer as the slow kiss became an eager one with tongues fluidly dancing with each other. New moaned when he felt Tay’s warm hand against the skin of his back while the other squeezing his hips. He bit his lip as the older pulled away and started kissing his neck. He felt a sharp poke near his thigh and is glad to know he has that impact.

Just when Tay began working on New’s buttons, they heard a small voice. “Papa? Tumtum hurts.”

They both silenced and looked at each other, both out of breath. He gave New a quick kiss on the forehead before getting off the younger. “I better go.”

New could only nod as he too quickly stood up, scratching his warm neck. “I’m on my way up, Baby.” He gave Tay one last look before heading up. Pleum was already waiting for him atop the stairs and he carried him instantly.

“Hey, Bud. Papa is here. Let’s get you some medicine.” He cooed his son as he watched Tay’s exiting form disappear from the window.

This time, and definitely not planned, it was Tay who avoided New.

It has been a week since they kissed and although Tay is physically there in the café, his mind was not. Tay would arrive when the café opened and he would be the last to leave. This was how the past week has been.

He was constantly in front of his laptop typing or scratching notes in his notebook and when Arm was around, that’s the time he would take short naps then wake up to do work again. Both New and Tay didn’t have time to talk at all and the only good thing to get Tay through the day is their small exchange of glimpses and smiles whenever New serves the espresso he orders.

New on the other hand was getting confused.

A week of not much interaction. A week. God, he sounded like a boyfriend.

Boyfriend.

He groaned as the word made him flush. He’d be lying if he said he didn’t think about it. He glimpsed at Tay and decided. ‘That’s it.’ He took off his apron and marched towards the napping Tay. He poked him – hard.

The younger looked up from his position and his eyes widen in surprise when he saw New standing there. “Hin?”

“Arm I’m stealing him. You...” He grabbed Tay’s hand and dragged him. “...You’re coming with me.”

“Sure just take him. I’ll be completely fine. I’ll be here – all single and shit.” Neither heard Arm’s reply as New was already dragging Tay up the stairs. Now that there, Tay noticed his surroundings properly as he barely saw anything when he placed Pleum in his room that one night.

He remembers putting Pleum in the colourful wallpapered room that night so he’s guessing the room right beside it which is right across from the stairs is New’s room. He peeked to the side and sees a small area that was decorated with a sofa and coffee table to which Tay thought to be a mini lounge area. He kept glancing around his surroundings when he was roughly pushed down onto the sofa.

“You need rest. Use the couch.” New placed his hands on his hips – emanating his being older aura.

Tay chuckled and took one of New’s hands. He rubbed the back of it before looking up to an anxious New. “You dragged me to sleep?”

“You look like you needed it. I just… I couldn’t stand by and watch you taking uncomfortable naps.” The older bit his lip as Tay started rubbing circles at the back of his hand; the gesture making him lose focus. “Take a nap and just come down when you’ve awoken.”

New pulled his hand and was about to leave when he felt a jerk. He looked back to see Tay smiling. “Stay with me? I’d rest better.”

“Somehow I don’t believe you,” New said this but he let Tay pull him closer.

The Older laughed and let out a tired sigh. “Oh trust me I’d love nothing more than to do something else but you’re right. I need a proper nap.”

New sent him a glare and despite his suspicions, he sat beside Tay and with a small plop, the younger placed his head on New’s lap. “You just want to use me as a pillow.”

“That’s true. You look so soft.” Tay laughed when New hit his chest gently. He snatched the younger’s hand and kissed it. “And I thought it would be nice to spend time alone together. We haven’t talked much this week and I miss you.”

THUMP.

THUMP.

THUMP.

Tay didn’t want a reply. New’s blushing cheeks gave him away. He felt the younger squeeze his hand before closing his eyes, a pleased smile plastered on his lips.

His alarm suddenly went off and New jumped from reading the magazine, waking Tay up. He groaned as he slowly sat up, stretching his body slightly.

“30 minutes?! That’s all your sleep is?” New wanted to hit him. Tay needed rest.

“And 30 minutes is enough. I was out the second I closed my eyes. Your thighs are pretty beneficial as pillows. I wonder what else they’re useful at. Thank you for the nap. Gotta get back to work.” Tay leaned in to give New a long kiss on the cheek.

The younger man scrunched his face and when Tay saw this, he couldn’t help but give the younger a quick peck on the lips and before New could hit him again, he quickly stood up.

New couldn’t help the shiver that runs up his spine as he watched Tay, slowly walking backwards, checking him out from head to toe before biting his lip. He winked before giving New that damn dimpled smile and disappearing from the younger’s view.

When he was still rolling around on that tiny cloud nine, his pocket suddenly vibrated.  His smile faltered as he opened the message:

‘Final hearing for the divorce is next week. Don’t want to make you uncomfortable so I won’t be there.’

He stared at his phone hard.

“Do you think there’s forever?” New asked as he huddled closer to his husband’s chest.

He felt the husband squeeze his arm. “Of course! We are proof of that, aren’t we?”

New chuckled. “You’re so cheesy! No wonder I fell in love with you. You think we’ll be happy?”

“We will be. We will always try, yes?” The husband pulled away to look at New in the eyes.

“Let’s be happy forever.”

The husband changed their position so that New was under him. “Let’s. You and me.”

New smiled as he leaned in for a kiss – the worry of how to tell their family about their elopement pushed at the far back of his mind.

As long as he’s with him, New will be okay.

Happiness.

What does that word even mean?

The moment that New thinks he has grasped it, an anvil suddenly drops on him – hard. As if reminding him that he doesn’t deserve it.

He supposes it’s a good thing because happiness is equated to hurt or at least from New’s experience.

The question now is, is his heart willing to try again?
