Mary's POV

"Rita please tell me you're joking! Tell me you're in the car with your mom on the way here!" I plead into the phone, standing out the front of the school where the other students are queuing to pack onto the school bus.

"I'm so sorry Mary.. My mom is refusing to let me go! She said I'm too sick."

"Who am I going to partner with? It's for a whole week Rita!" I practically shout down the phone, earning a few glances from nearby students to which I just turn to move further away.

"Listen, if I get better within the week, I will get my mom to drop me there and we will be together."

Mr Davies begins calling for everyone to load into the bus from where he is standing, clipboard in hand, at the door.

"Okay fine. You better get better or I swear to god-"

"Ms Wright, will you be joining us anytime soon!" I turn to see nearly all the students on the bus.

"Sorry sir!," I shout walking towards him with my phone still at my ear, "Rita I have to go but you better get well soon! Love you!" I end the call and stand in front of the teacher.

Mr Davies is that PE teacher that all the girls drool over. He coaches the boys football team and honestly I respect him for that, those boys are some of the most dense, irritating-

"Wright, can you speed things up, I'm getting bored of staring at the back of your head" I know that brain itching voice from anywhere.
I turn on my heel, my backpack swiping Mr Davies a little.

Bucky Barnes and his two equally annoying best friends.

"I will take as long as I like, Barnes." I turn back around, seeing only a glimpse of his annoyed look before ticking my name on the clipboard and dragging my travel case onto the metal steps of the bus.

Walking awkwardly down the isle, I struggle to find an empty seat with all different friend groups climbing over each other and rattling on noisily. My eyes lock on an empty bench close to the back.

Once I finally waddle over to it, struggling with the extra weight of my backpack and bag, I take off my luggage and throw it on the closer seat and climb over so I am situated next to the window.

The bus grows impossibly louder when the 'popular' boys step in, making there presence known with obnoxious laughter and jeering to the more quieter kids.

I sink down in my seat hoping they will just pass by and leave me alone for now. I'm still kind of pissed that Rita isn't here and I am going to have to partner with some total random. That's the problem with only being a duo, you don't make other friends, you just have each other. And right now I have no one.

To my surprise, when I see Bucky reach my bench, he only spares me a glance. No snide remark? No taunting? Weird. Nevertheless, I am extremely grateful so I just leave it at that.

"Okay listen up Ladies & Gents!," Mr Davies quiets down everyone, "I expect you to be on your best behaviour throughout the week. We are going to a forest. There will be bugs, wolves, and even bears! So please follow all the safety measures put in place by the lovely team at the site," I hear mumbles of chatter coming from his group, a few rows behind.
"Now get yourselves comfortable for a four hour journey!" Groans are heard throughout the bus.

I put my headphones on and pull out my sketchbook, deciding I may as well occupy myself until I feel tired enough to nap. I skip through the fibre pages, decorated nicely with portraits of my grandmas back garden, the library, the park, etc. My father always tells me that my talents are 'one of a kind' but I beg to differ.
