"Avery you have to run he's going to get you," I hear my mother's voice whisper to me.
"Mom where are you!" I yell frantically looking around for my mother, but the black consumes me.
I hear footsteps getting closer and closer.
"Run." My mother's soft voice whispers to me again, before I know it I'm running as fast as I can away from the darkness. Until I feel something trip me from under my feet making me fall down.
I lay on the ground, darkness still around me. I bring my legs up to my chest hugging myself.
"Mom it hurts." I whisper in a sob, tears running down my face.
"Oh Avery." My father laughs. I pull myself closer trying to hide myself from him.
"You think you can run from me?"
Never.
"Answer me when I'm talking to you!" He yells making me flinch.
"N-no." I respond with a shaky voice.
"That's what I thought you little bitch," he says kicking me in the side twice.
I feel tears run down my face taking the pain, I don't have any energy left in me to scream and yell. Maybe I deserve this.
"You should just fucking die already." He yells again kicking my face this time.
Well father I practically am.
——
I wake up to the pounding on my door.
"Avery let me in!" My dad yells from behind my door.
Shit. He's back.
I quickly jump out of my bed running into my bathroom, I brush my hair and my teeth as fast as I can.
Walking over to my dresser I pull out a black hoodie and a black pair of sweatpants.
"If you don't let me in Avery Scott!"
I throw my clothes on pulling my converse over my feet. I grab my backpack from my closet before rushing over to my window. I open it as quiet as I can so he doesn't hear me escaping.
I throw my legs over the ledge jumping out the window. landing swiftly on the ground.
I glance back up at my window seeing my father staring back down at me with anger in his eyes. Looking away from him I sprint off into the darkness. Not caring where my little legs take me.
After a while of running my legs start to slow down and the adrenaline inside me starts to wear off.
I keep my head down sitting down on the curb of the sidewalk. Pulling my legs up to my chest I let out a loud shaky breath.
Laying my head on my knees my moms beautiful blue eyes flash in my mind, they were so beautiful you could see every emotion in them.
Tears fill my eyes, but I am quick to wipe them away when I hear a car approaching me. I jump up quickly from my spot making a run for it down the street.
I hear the car come to a stop and one of the doors slamming shut. "Hey!" I hear a familiar voice yell.
My feet come to a stop. Why? Keep running Avery. But I can't my legs are to tired.
"Hey," the voice gets closer. His footsteps get louder until he comes to a stop. I let out a deep breath facing him and I meet the only green eyes I don't want to meet.
Maverick Gray.
"Avery? What the hell are you doing awake at 4 in the morning? Does your father know?" Maverick says grabbing my arm but I instantly pull away.
Does my father know? Does my father know?
Maverick's words replay in my mind.
His Dad and My Father were...How could I forget.
"Avery? Are you okay? I can call-"
"No!" I yell cutting him off.
My heartbeat is getting faster and faster.
The adrenaline is back, running through my blood.
Go Avery.
I turn around sprinting as fast as I can into the darkness.
"Avery!" Maverick yells but I ignore him.
How could I forget about his family.
Shit.
My legs keep going faster and faster, if my father gets me tonight he will kill me.
"You deserve to die Avery."
My legs come to a stop when I realize I'm standing in front of my moms grave.
"Mommy," I whisper.
"I miss you."
"Every single day," tears stream out of my eyes.
I stare down at her grave for a while longer waiting for her response that she misses me more.
But like always there's nothing but the sound of the wind and the leaves of the trees swaying in the wind.
I sniffle, whipping my tears away leaving the grave yard. The sun is starting to rise over the horizon and I pull my hood over my face once again.
I see my bench that I normally sit at to wait for school to start. A little smile creeps on my face as I take a seat on it.
I slip my backpack off of my shoulders opening it up I find one of my favorite poetry books.
I feel my body relax for the first time in a while.
This seems too simple.
just simple.
