In this masquerade, she can't feel the pain

Cover up her heart, with a little paint

While he's pulling out a flask, to hide it all away

There's nothing left to say-

-But she'd be fine pretending

Things were alright, even while its ending keep it inside

All there loving is pending so what is she defending

Even when she says she'll open her eyes

All her words are empty

Allision's POV

I entered the class to see Emily sitting in my seat. She was the person you would call a queen bee. Only thing she was loyal to her quarterback boyfriend and she dressed modestly but that didn't mean she wasn't the kind of person to get physical but she never did with me she only verbally bullied me.

"Ah Emily you're in my seat." I murmured.

"Sorry you said something." She smiled innocently.

"I said you're in my seat." I replied louder.

"And? What are you gonna do run and go tell big brother oh wait he left." She smirked she knew my family was not a topic I liked.

I sighed and walked to the back of the class where two seats where left. Then the teacher walked in.

5 Minutes into the class the door opened and in walked Seth Parker. The teacher just rolled his eyes at this. Him walking in late was something that happened every day since he moved here in Sophomore year.

"Just take a seat Mr. Parker." Our teacher said not bothering to give him a detention he never showed up anyways.

He walked to the only seat left beside me I sank farther in my chair.

He sat down and kept looking at me while I tried to ignore him. Realizing I wasn't going to say anything he spoke.

"So what's little Miss. Perfect doing all the way in the back?"

"Emily was in my seat and wouldn't get up." I mumbled hoping that would make him stop talking to me.

"No more like you let her." He mumbled.

"Yeah."

After School

I where I waited on Amy cause she was coming over this evening.

"Hi." I greeted.

"Oh Hey you ready." She asked and I nodded and we got into the Jeep and I started it.

"Oh I'll have to stop at Starbucks want anything?" I asked as we left the parking lot.

"Yes please. So, anything new happened?" She asked.

"Emily sat in my seat so I had to get a new one." I replied.

"Ok why didn't you throw her ass out." She remarked.

"I'm Allison Walker not Amy Santiago." I remined her.

"Oh right so what happened next."

"I went and sat at the back and Seth sat next to me and wou-" Before I could finish she cut me off.

"Seth as in Seth Parker sat next to you!?!" She yelled.

"Yes and he wouldn't stop staring at me and the-"

"HE STARED AT YO-" This time I cut her off.

"If you would stop interrupting me you would have already heard the whole story." I snapped as I was getting annoyed.

"Daaaaamn." Amy teased.

"Sorry anyways he kept staring and I wouldn't say anything and after about 2 minutes he asked what I was doing at the back of the class and I told him." I filled her in.

"I honestly don't know what to make of it." She replied looking confused.

"Me neither." I said as we pulled into the parking lot of Starbucks.

As we walked into the house we were greeted by Maddie's photos scattered all over the living room floor and her sketch pad on the coffee table.

"Maddie." I yelled walking into the kitchen.

"Up here." She yelled from her art room that was on the same floor as our rooms.

"Why are there pictures all over the floor." Amy asked as I handed Maddie the coffee.

"Nice to see you too Amy." Maddie rolled her eyes.

"I'm going need the living room." I told her and she sighed getting up and when I looked around the room I noticed it was also filled with cut fabrics, pictures and newspaper clippings to their respective corners but not knowing what she was doing people would say there was no method to her madness.

"I don't know why she has to have all her stuff everywhere." Amy said throwing herself on the sofa after Maddie finished.

"Well, she works in multiple rooms at once. .She would start one thing in here then walk away then start in another room then when she went to take a break she would remember she was doing something before that and go back to it. I remember this one time she had photos on the floor like just now and in the kitchen and mom was walking out and she slipped on one but luckily dad was behind her and caught her that's why they renovated one of the guest rooms for her to work in but Maddie still had pictures and newspaper clippings all over but she had her sewing thing in her room." I smiled at the memory that was about 3 years ago things where so much simpler then now its like we don't care about each other. If there was one thing my brother and father taught me it's when tough times come even family will abandon you then judge your methods of copping with it.

"Earth to Ally." Amy said waving her hand infront of my face.

"Sorry." I said shaking my head.

"What's on your mind Champ?" she asked taking up the remote and looked over at me. I shake my head and smiled.

After Amy and I watched a few movies she left and I ordered take out because I didn't feel like cooking and when Maddie gets into her work she can't be bothered to cook after.

"What's bothering you?" She asked after noticing that I was more quiet than usual.

"He left us then he just calls like he has a right to even have a say in our lives." I said putting the fork on the table.

"What are you talking about?" She asked putting down her fork and looking up at me.

"I heard what he said to you yesterday." I sighed as I held back the tears.

"I heard the office landline phone ringing and I was in the kitchen so I took up the landline that was in the kitchen and I heard your conversation."

"Ally look-" I cut her off.

"You need to stop defending him he left us, as if we didn't lose our mother and then he has the audacity to call complaining about you at school he's a hypocrite he never showed us an ounce of care after she died then thinks he can be a parent when it suits him." I yelled as I cried looking down at the counter. I only felt her pull me over to hug her

"Kingston left but at least he minded his own business and never gave you any of his crap they both left us by ourselves I-I just can't anymore." I clung to her. I can't do this anymore I try I do my best to get good grades do my best in school to keep dad off Maddie's case so he would just leave her alone. I know she tries her best to keep me away from anything that happens between her and dad. Everyone left us and what we were to act as if nothing happened I can't live like this mom would turn in her grave if she saw what her family has become.

"Ally it's ok. Its ok you don't need to worry about anything ok." She whispered running her hand up and down my back and I nodded.

Pretending- Alec Benjamin
