"Wake up your highness", I feel my shoulders shaking lightly. I groan and roll over, my muscles still sore from last night's practice.

"What time is it?", I yawn, slowly trying to open my eyes, but failing miserably.

"It's eight fifteen am miss, you were supposed to be at breakfast fifteen minutes ago", Darce, my maid opens the curtains, flooding my huge bedroom with sunlight. I hiss at the rays now hitting my open eyes.

"Father won't mind", I sit up and slip my legs into the comfort of my fluffy slippers.

"But her majesty the queen would be furious!", Darce scurries across my room, getting my outfits ready for the day.

"You know, you don't have to do all that. I can simply wear the first thing I see", I stand up, stretching my hands over my head before walking down the 3 steps which lead to my four-poster bed.

"And let your mother think I'm helpless?! I'd rather die!", Darce opens drawer by drawer in my vanity, picking out jewelry.

"Don't be so dramatic. And, just a necklace would do", I say and walk inside my bathroom.

"Wait! I haven't drawn up your bath yet your-"

"I can do things by myself Darce, calm down", I smile and close the door in her face.

I love her, but sometimes she's way too invested in her job.

"You're late", is the first thing my mother grunts as I walk into the dining hall.

I resist the urge to roll my eyes at her and take a seat next to my father, who is seated at the head of the table.

"It's fine love, Kat must've had a hard night, right Kat?", father smiles at me.

See, this is why I love my father over my mother.

"Yes father, I stayed up until one am", I sit patiently until the servers put food on my plate. Some fruits and pancakes. Obviously, my father's doing.

It's silent for a few, just our utensils clanking against the plates.

"Kat, we need to talk", mother looks at me apprehensively, breaking the silence.
