“I told you, they were the only thing left behind from that thing that attacked me the other day. Why? Is there something wrong?”

“These shards are very, very old, but based on your explanation of it we can assume it was a newer transformer. There was a bit of dried energon on it, and it was vastly similar to the make up of Evac’s and Skyclash’s energon samples. Not to mention the dating on these matched Sky’s scrap metal piece.” He explained. “Had he not attacked you, we would have another new bot among the other three.”

The scraps left behind were as old as the piece on Sky’s back. And they were just that: scraps. Ones that had been sitting for a while in a no-so-weatherproof pile of other scraps. Cass’ thoughts began to click together like a string of magnets that had been pushed too close together. The scraps had to be from her scrap pile. It would explain why it seemed like it was getting smaller and smaller, the pieces were going missing to create new life, and if not new life, possibly the life it was used for before. Cass knew full well some autobots scraps were among that pile.

“Does Optimus happen to have an old piece of metal?” she asked.

Ratchet paused for a moment. “I haven't thought to check…”

“Check. I need you to check everyone that’s been reincarnated. I have a theory, but it can only be right if you check everyone. Even on the inside.”

He stared down at the human, clearly puzzled, but didn’t try to argue. “I suppose I can do that. Can you at least hang onto these so I don't lose them among the chaos?”
She nodded and took the old pieces from him, slipping them into her jacket pocket before. The rust rubbed off on her fingers, turning them a slight red.

Eventually there was one bot with Ratchet at a time, And occasionally Cass would check in just to see thorough examination, each one on a different bot. He had a list going, but Cass could hardly make out what it said. All she could tell was that it grew each time he called in another bot. It was clear everyone was confused by the sudden “medical exam”, but most just shrugged it off.

“Ratchet’s just like that sometimes.” Arcee would say each time it was questioned.

“Yeah but he's, like, doing all of us?” Jazz pointed out.

Drift shook his head. “Not all of us. Just those who were dead before.”

No one had realized it until Drift pointed it out. The only ones who hadn’t been called for an exam were ones who had been around this whole time. Ratchet had also excluded Evac and Sky, simply because he already had the needed information from them.

“Cass,” Evac trudged up to her, kneeling down to speak quietly. “Do you know what’s going on?”

“I do, after all, I asked him to do this.” She replied simply.

Evac was taken aback. “You? But why?”

Cass shrugged. “If what I'm testing proves to be correct then I'll tell you. In the meantime it's best not to worry about it. It’s nothing dire, I promise.” though a simple promise didn’t seem to ease him much more.

It was a lot to go through just for a theory, but why not? It was harmless, and plus, everyone she needed was around. Either it was luck or she was wasting Ratchet’s time, either way she wouldn’t know until later.

To pass the time Cass decided to help Cade out with some of his paperwork. He seemed just as confused as the others about Ratchet’s sudden exams, but didn't question it. The Autobots must’ve done things like that frequently if he shrugged it off so easily. He seemed more concerned with Cass being oddly quiet than anything else. He would try and start small talk but their dulled answers seemed to push any further conversation away. Though eventually his own curiosity bowled over any small talk.
