Cate was certain that it had been a year since her last Saturday, yet somehow they were only on Wednesday in the week. Nevertheless, she sleepily forced herself to class and somehow didn't completely pass out on her teachers. When lunch time came around, she aimlessly wandered to the cafeteria, but before she could get there.

             CLANG!

The mean girl that Tabbi called 'Britney Sheers' had forcefully slammed her hand against a locker, blocking Cate's path and forcing the sleep girl to suddenly be alert.

"You gonna sit with the loser boys again?" The girl teased.

With wobbly knees, Cate just stared at the girl, completely swollen by anxiety. Her stomach twisted with thick knots as she held back the sensation of vomit. Suddenly being forced with human confrontation for no clear reason sent the already introverted girl into a very narrow and confined mental state. Her mind seemed to only be capable of computing panic attacks.

"I-uh, ya, you... I-" The confusion and anxiety completely prohibited any coherent thought processes to defend herself with.

For a small moment, Cate looked around frantically for Tabbi without moving her head at all. She suddenly made eye contact with Jack. Her expression practically pleaded for him to step in, but he intentionally looked away, abandoning her.

"Well do yourself a favor, ya little shit!" The girl practically spat in Cate's face. "Sit with someone else! Charlotte doesn't like you sitting with the boys~!" The teasing seemed to come with the intention of a threat.

All Cate could possibly do was ever so slightly nod in agreement. This was not because she agreed or even understood what the girl was saying; it was simply to end the situation as soon as possible.

"Elise!" A familiar male voice came from behind Cate. Before Cate had a moment to process anything, a young man now stood between herself and the confronter. "I see you've met my new friend."

"Jayson..." Elise glared at the boy, completely unamused. "You know this girl is bad news, right?"

             "Are you implying you aren't?"

Cate observed this conversation, puzzled how the two knew each other.

"She hangs out with a diseased black girl." The girl smiled, as if the words she was spitting made even the slightest bit of a coherent argument.

"At least she's not a diseased white girl like you." Jayson smiled as he grabbed Cate's hand. "Come on, we shouldn't waste anymore time here."

"You're better than this, Jayson." Elise hissed after them. "You'll get what's coming to you." Watching the two walk away only frustrated her more, sending her into a hate-filled spiral. "Don't ever come over to my house again!" She yelled after them as they disappeared through the cafeteria doors.

Cate looked up at Jayson who smiled back at her. "Don't mind her." He slowly let go of Cate's hand as they got in line for lunch.
