Official Chapter 1

The bystander's eyebrow shot up as he looked me up and down. "Do I know you?" He questioned.

I giggled nervously, glancing towards the stranger, trying to convey with my eyes the situation. The bystander shifted his gaze behind us, trying to figure out what I was looking at. His stare fixed on the stranger, his face going cold, his jaw tightening. The stranger's look mirrored his as the two stared each other down in some sort of silent feud.

The bystander turned his attention back to me. He tossed his arm around my shoulders. "Hey, gorgeous, you having fun?"

I let out a long breath, my posture easing. "It's better now that you're here. I was just telling this lovely stranger about you." I shot the guy a glare.

His fist balled up in his hands, "This is your boyfriend?" He questioned, pressing his tongue to the roof of his mouth.

I nodded, rocking back and forth on my heels. "Yep." I nodded, pursing my lips. "This is him."

"This is your girlfriend?" He growled, directing his attention to the bystander.

"Yep. I know, it's hard to believe. I still don't know how I got so lucky." The bystander smirked, pulling me closer to him.

I repeatedly tapped my book against my leg, shifting in my spot as the two boys looked ready to kill each other if given the options.

Well this isn't awkward at all...

"You know, I would love to stay and chat but our friends are waiting for us and we should really get back." I tugged on the bystanders arm, dragging him away from the stranger. The bystander was reluctant to leave, clearly more interested in staring down the stranger. If looks could kill, the two of them would be dead by now.

I released the bystander the second we were out of sight. My shoulders relaxed. "Thank you so much." I gave him a grateful look.

With the stranger out of view, the bystander relaxed, running a hand through his dusty brown hair, leaving it a disheveled mess. "No problem." He leaned against the wall, giving me a lazy smile. "So, you got a name?"

We had managed to find a spot, hidden from most of the people, allowing me to hear his question. "Beatrice." I answered bluntly, keeping my distance.

"Beatrice," he tried my name out, rolling it on his tongue. "Well Beatrice, you often come to parties alone?"

"I came with my brothers." I probably should have mentioned that my eldest brother was 6'5, two hundred and ten pounds of our muscle and could benchpress over his own body weight. The guy was jacked, to say the least, and would kill anyone who dares to hurt his baby sister.

He nodded, closing his eyes as he rested his head against the wall. "I hate these things, they're always so loud."

"Then why do you come?" I replied, watching as he rolled up the sleeves of his button up shirt, which hadn't been buttoned all the way.

He flashed me a grin, showing off his kanines. "Great place to pick up ladies."

My eyes widened as I took a step back.

He snickered, his shoulders rising as he laughed. "Relax, I'm kidding. My friend dragged me out here."

I nodded, unclenching my book, which I was sure was going to have claw marks in it soon. His eyes shot down to the sudden movement. "You brought a book with you?"

I hid the book behind my back quickly. "No!"

He gave me an amused look. "Right, so the book you're hiding behind your back definitely isn't yours."
