Out of impatience and anger, he had told Dayo to cancel the meeting but they disagreed and tell him why he shouldn't. Frustrated, he went for his meeting. But just like the present, he wasn't concentrating. He hardly listened to what had been discussed. He let Dayo answered all questions and do all the talking.
He had tried calling her again after their meeting but Lola wasn't answering his calls. He was worried but he knew at the same time that she was intentionally not replying his call. She did not even reply to his text from early that morning - which he was sure that she saw.
"Mr. Demilade..." Dayo voice woke him from his clouds of thought.
And he snapped at him. "What?"
The poor man didn't look a bit offended, it's like he expected it.
"You are not listening." Uche said calmly. He peered up at her. And she quickly added. "Should we leave and come back later?"
"Continue."
"But you aren't listening." She complained boldly. Demilade scowled at her. "Are you expecting a call?" She asked calmly, and her eyes moved from his to his phone. She had seen him calling someone who didn't reply his calls that morning. And she thought that was the reason for his distraction.
Although, she still find it surprising that he had been with the phone since he walked in that morning. His attention had also been just on it which was so unlike him. He hardly hold or turn his private number on while at work.
He didn't give her a reply instead he turned to Dayo and asked. "What is my schedule this afternoon?"
And just like he already have everything in his head, he replied. "You have a conference meeting at Abuja and a diner with Minister of work afterwards."
He groaned. He had forgotten about that. He was planning on doing something else after lunch. But it doesn't look like it will work. Those two meetings are very important.
So, he asked again. "What about tomorrow?"
"You have...." Uche was saying but he held up his hand.
"Cancel all my appointments for tomorrow." He ordered.
Uche didn't bother arguing and she answered. "Okay. But you have to sign the document concerning..."
"Is it ready?" He cut her short.
"No. Probably in the evening." She retorted.
"Okay. I will see what I can do but make sure you cancel all my appointments for tomorrow."
"I will." Uche replied.
"Am I free this weekend? I need time for myself."
"Unfortunately, that's not possible sir." He turned to look at Dayo who answered him. Then Uche smiled coolly at him.
"Your weekend is full Mr. Demmy," Uche added.
With a shake of his head and a frustrated sign, he told them. "Go ahead."
"Saturday, there is your friend James's opening ceremony of his hotel and you are among his special guests. Mr. Phillips is also having a dinner party for his friends and family. You are invited. Honorable Govi also invites you to his daughter's wedding ceremony that same day."
Demilade shake his head. He was indeed full for the weekend. And there wasn't any escaping.
"Okay. I will make an appearance at the Honorable daughter's wedding party because I need that contract with him. And also James' party. I just need to be there for the launch. His party always sucks when he has bunches of old men as friends." Uche and Dayo sniffled a burst of laughter and they tried hard to keep a straight face. "I'm definitely going to Mr. Phillip's dinner party. He got bunches of good clients as friends and the man is one hell of a great man. So that's settled."
