"That's slick..." she flinched.

Tell me about it.

"I wonder how he looks without a shirt." she mumbled with a smirk but it was loud enough for me to hear.

"Disgusting." I uttered with a frown.

"What?" she chuckled. "I'm just wondering."

"Stop thinking about such things." I said, standing up from the bench.

"Jules, chill out." she giggled. "But he sure is dreamy." she continued, licking her lips.

Unbelievable.

"Why do we sit outside on the benches, and not inside the cafeteria?" she asked me on our way to the cafeteria. "I mean, there's enough space." she said, looking around.

"Because... I don't fit." I said, because I don't fit.

Leah will most definitely fit. Everyone will like her because she's beautiful, just like most girls in our school.

And me, what am I?

An ugly duckling.

"What do you mean by you don't fit?" she asked in confusion.

"I don't fit. Nobody likes me, I'm... invisible." I said truthfully.

"I like you." she smiled, placing her silky hand on my shoulder. "If they don't like you, it's their problem."

"Thanks." I said with a grin.

"She has a friend? I didn't know that." Britney said with a smirk, walking towards me and Leah, clapping her hands. Everyone turns in our direction. "Who are you?" she asked Leah.

"Leah Remini." she smiled, extending her hand towards her so that she can shake it. Britney looks at it and slightly pushes it down.

"I don't do handshakes sweetie." she smiled. "Anyways, why are you her friend? You're way too beautiful to be seen with her." she said, playing with Leah's black hair.

"And she's way too gorgeous to be seen with me in public." Leah complimented with a grin, referring to my 'beauty'.

The girls who are very close to us start laughing.

"Did she really just say that?" Britney asked rhetorically and thereafter chuckled. More people started laughing.

"Yes." she smiled. "My friend is beautiful." she continued, facing me with the most beautiful grin I've ever seen.

"No, your friend is an ugly duckling." Britney retorted.

Told you.

"She's clumsy."

That's a lie.

"She looks like an old woman."

That's... true.

The laughs get louder and the crowd grows bigger. The stares are intensifying.

"You'll never get a boyfriend, that's how ugly you are!" she retorted and I could feel a lump form in my throat. "You even had the nerve to call me an animal, when you're the one looking like an animal!"

"Hey, watch it! This is my friend you're talking about." Lexi stood up for me.

"Aww, that's so cute." she chuckled. "But let me tell you one thing sweetheart, if you want to make it through high school, you'll stop being friends with her." she said to her.

"I'd rather not make it through high school." she said firmly.

"We'll see about that." Britney smirked and walks to her table.

**

"Sup nerd?" Aaron asked, walking towards me.

"I'm not a nerd." I rolled my eyes after closing my locker.

"Says you." he chuckled. "So, when are you preparing our English performance?"

"Excuse you? There's a reason why we are partners. We are going to work together." I said in a 'duh' tone.

"Fine, when are we practicing it?"

"Whenever you're free, because I'm always free. It's not like I have a social life." I said, mumbling the last part to myself.

"Cool." he said, busy on his phone. "I need your number." he said whilst handing it to me.

"Why?" I asked in confusion.

"Because we need to discuss the English thing." he said in a 'duh' tone.

"Oh, yeah." I said, taking the phone from his hand and dialing my number.

This is the first time a guy asks for my number.

I hand him the phone after dialing my number.

"Cool, we'll talk then." he said. "By the way, don't mind Britney." he said before walking off.
