“I can hear my mum shouting, sorry, I have to go.” I apologised.

“Its okay, I’ll see you tomorrow.” She whispered.

I climbed out of the broken window into the over grown lawn, scraping my knee on the sharp glass. I creeped through the bush and into my garden and into the house.

“where have you been, Oliver?” demanded my mum.

“I was in the garden” I lied.

“hhhhmmmmmmmm” said mum. She looked me in the eye and I tried to look innocent. I couldn’t tell her were I really was, not because I would get told off, because she wouldn’t believe me.

The next day I went back to the garden, through the bush and climbed back into the broken window.

“Lily? lily where are you?” I asked, worried.

“Here.” I heard a frail voice call from the living room.

Lily was lying down on the beat-up sofa, her eyes closed. Her face was tired and ill, her eyes were sunken in and had a ring of grey around them. Her cheekbones were thin and her whole body looked weak and delicate, like she would snap any moment.

I sighed. Poor lily. I wish I could help her but the only thing I could do was bring her food, which I did, everyday. I took the orange, the hunk of cheese, the piece of bread and the piece of French toast out my pockets and hand it too her. She eats it slowly and carefully, savouring every bite.

“ Oh lily,I do worry about you” I sigh.

Lily looked up at me and smiled.

“you worry too much, Oliver.”

I found lily here around a year ago. She had run away from home and was staying next door to me. Every day I would sneak here and give her food, any food that I could sneak into my pockets at meal times I gave to her. Sometimes I managed to give her my whole lunch. I would be hungry but it didn’t matter; Lily needed it more.

Me and lily were close, she told me everything. About how her parents hated her, or her brother bullied her. We were Best Friends.

“I have to go, Lily, see you tomorrow” I murmured. I looked down to see that she was sleeping, her dark brown curls spread across the dirty old cushion.

I lay awake that night, thinking of lily. I knew she wasn’t very well, she had asthma, and we both knew she would die one day as she had no medication

i kept on visiting lily, and each day i saw her she got thinner and thinner, sicker and sicker, closer and closer to death. Lily kept me awake at night. i knew she didnt have much time left, but there was nothing i could do. but my mum could.

one day i came home from school to see the thing i least expected to see; Lily sleeping on the aemchair in the living room, with a big smile stretched across her face. she was the happiest i had ever seen her.

"Lily, what are you doing here?" i questioned.

my mum bustled in with a sandwich and a drink for Lily.

" i heard crying and i went next door to see and she was curled up on a sofa. i got in touch with social services and im trying to adopt her. Lily is going to be your new foster sister!"
