She was falling.

Falling like the sun that sinks at each dusk. Falling like a petal abandoned by the spring breeze that once lulled it.
She was always one to keep her head up. Strong; she was strong. Yet, the irony of fate made that for the first—and perhaps last—time, she plummeted.
The dense clouds dissipated as she pierced them. They caressed her skin briefly, offering her an ephemeral quasi-comfort.
Her eyelids seemed heavy, so heavy. Slowly, she opened her eyes. Exposed to the blinding daylight, her amber irises tightened.
She watched the blushing sky fade when her tears built up. What a treason. The heavens she had adored so much let her down; they gave up on her.
What once were glorious, proud wings were ripped apart. Ivory feathers flew all around her. All there was left was a pair of deep lacerations traversing the pallid skin of her upper back.
She was tasting pain; another first. A sour taste pricked her tongue and she tried to concentrate on it to forget how excruciating her back felt.
A warm tear was caught in the winds. Just then, the sky was scintillating. Like stars illuminating the galaxy, her tears shone once sunrays touched them.

Suddenly, she ceased to fall. She remained frozen, hovering a lake. Time seemed to have halted. Her fingers leisurely dipped in the fresh water.
Her breath was stolen when the realization hit her. Was she really still alive? No one could survive such a descent. Yet, she did.
Her body sank gradually until she was floating in the water, seemingly in peace. Cool water crept onto her open wounds as if to slightly relieve them.
She let herself drift to the weak currents of the lake, her mouth wearing a lazy beam.

That's it, she wasn't falling anymore.
