Staring at her phone from time to time.
Hoping to see his call.
She knew he would probably still be at work, overworking as usual, or on his way from work still making phone calls.
She wondered why he was still mad at her when she already apologized and even tried to call him.
She shut her eyes tight and she tried to prevent the tears that threatened to fall.
After everyone had gone into their apartment and Lola's friends had left, she and her family went up to their apartment, together with Ibukun. She had decided to sleep over at Lola's house like they do when they were still in high school.
She followed Lola to her room after they had said good night to her father. She sang after the music that was playing on her iPhone X as she walked into the room. She threw herself on the bed, exhaling loudly.
"Oh my! I'm so tired." She said to herself.
"Aren't you bathing? Lola asked.
"Nah. I already did this evening before coming over to your house." She replied and she turned around on the bed.
Lola just shake her head and she went to search for cloth in her wardrobe. She found a singlet and a short and threw them on Ibukun who had already stripped herself of all her clothes.
"Thanks bitch."
Lola rolled her eyes without saying anything. She changed out of her clothes, tied a towel around her and she told her friend that she was going to bathe. Then she went out of the room to the bathroom to have her night bath.
When she returned, Ibukun was busy with her phone laying on her back on the bed. She changed into her night clothes and maneuvered herself to her bed. Ibukun moved to the side to let Lola have a chance on the bed.
"You're unusually quiet today. What is it?" Ibukun asked.
Lola sighed. She was hoping Ibukun won't say anything and continued with what she was doing on her phone. But her wish had not been granted.
"Nothing." She was not in the mood to talk. And fortunately for her, Ibukun said nothing after that. She heard her chuckle. Which means she had gone back to what she was doing on her phone.
Lola turned off her phone which made her friend turn back to her.
Ibukun gave Lola back a stare before she put down her phone. Then she asked.
"Why do you turn off your phone?"
"I want to charge it. Moreover, who is calling me?"
"Your boyfriend of course. Aren't you calling him or chatting with him or something?" She asked.
"No." Was Lola's answer. And she stood up to go and plug her phone. Then she returned to the bed where Ibukun had to sit with her legs crossed in front of her. She was giving her that familiar stare but she pretend she didn't see it.
And she was about to return to her position on the bed when Ibukun said.
"Do you want to tell me what is wrong?" She said authoritatively.
"Nothing is wrong, IB," Lola answered exasperatedly.
"Oh really? Is that why you come to my shop to mop or why you have been staring at your phone since I came here this evening? Or why you have been irritated at every little thing? Or..."
"That's enough Ibukun." Lola cut her short.
"No... I can continue. I can tell you all you do when you are angry and when something is hurting you." She stated.
