Although, he secretly speaks with her whenever she calls but he didn't let her know.
So, it was surprising that she was asking for their mother's phone number.
"What? Why are you asking? Did you see her in your dreams? Was she hunting you?" He asked mockingly.
She swatted his head and he groaned.
"I was just joking." He said. And she rolled her eyes. Then he turned serious. "Seriously? Do you want her number? Do you want to talk to her?"
His voice was filled with surprise, concern, and hopefulness.
She shrugged before nodding. "I am thinking about it." She said almost in a whisper.
Aside from the fact that she missed her boyfriend. There was also something else in her mind.
She can't seems to forget what he said. What he said to her still rings in her head every time.
In the past three days, she had been trying to push Demilade words out of her head but she couldn't. Whenever she doesn't want to remember it, it popped up again in her head.
You talked about understanding and you refused to talk to your mother for more than two years. Or is that the reason why you never gave your brother permission to? And you're telling me about understanding.
.... At least, your own mother did come back for you after she left you. She cared and still wants a chance in your life. But you are still hurt by her leaving. At least, she left but came back
She admitted Demilade was right. She wasn't angry that he said those words anymore. After thinking about it over and over again after that day, she realized that he was correct. He was right about it.
She said she had let go and forgive her mother but she was still holding unto what she did. She still didn't forget what happened. She doesn't want to see her or talk to her and she said she has no ill feelings against her.
She was just deceiving herself. Something she had failed to admit to herself for a long time.
How could she preach forgiveness when she wasn't even taking her own words? Her mother did something she could never forget. She hurt them. She hurt her father. But the man in question had forgotten about it. He doesn't mention it. In fact, he doesn't care anymore. When Daniel had told him about her calls and visits to the school, he had told him to answer her call and be polite whenever she is around. Although she was angry that he could talk that way. That he could act like she didn't hurt them. But he did.
And that had been what prompted her to talk to him again the previous night about their mother.
So when he returned from work and had taken his super, she decided to ask him before he go to bed.
"Dad... Do you think I should talk to Mom?" She asked. The man said nothing but just watch her. "I have forgiven her daddy but... I don't know... I just can't bring myself to sit with her and talk like nothing ever happened. Like she didn't leave us for thirteen years. It's so hard Daddy."
"Lola... We talked about this once. And so does your brother. Remember when I asked you to meet with her and talk to her and also let your brother do the same?"
She nodded in reply. "Yes, Dad. I remember."
"The main question is have you forgiven her for what she did?"
"Yes." She answered.
"Then why aren't you giving her a chance? Why do you not want to talk to her?"
She thought about her answer. Something she had also been asking herself since Demilade said those words.
"Because I can't forget it, Dad. I saw her walk out. I saw her leave us. I saw what she did, I saw how it affect you. It's just so hard to forget."
