Lola stared at him. She doesn't even know what to say. Bayo was right. The man doesn't deserve him. He does not deserve to call himself a father. He broke his son. He had warranted a lot of anger from his son.
But she had learned that everything in this life happens for a reason.
Maybe he won't have turned out this way if he had been with his father. Maybe he would have not succeeded and become so wealthy if he had grown up given everything. Maybe he wouldn't have a story to tell if his father had taken the responsibility for him. Maybe she wouldn't have met him if all those things never happened. There were a lot of maybe. But she was definitely sure of something, all things happen for a reason.
"If I say I know what you went through, it's a big fat lie. I can't imagine going through all that. And I am sorry you had to watch your mother suffer that badly. I am truly sorry. I feel for her. No woman deserves to be hurt that way." Lola expressed quietly.
"You don't have to apologize Lola. It is not your fault." He said without looking at her.
"I know. But still, I can't help it. I'm sorry you went through that as a child." She said patting his arms and back gently. He just shakes his head, not saying anything or looking at her.
There was silence between them for a while before Lola decided to end it.
"Uhm. I know he did incredibly badly to hurt you and your mother. It was so heartless of him. He does not deserve to call himself your father. But... sadly, he is still your father. And you turned out better than him. So Demmy.... can you ever find it in you to forgive him?" Lola asked, looking hopeful. Her eyes pleading.
This time he tensed up and pulled away from her. Then he turned to face her. He was surprised at the question and also very angry. If she wasn't his girlfriend, he knew what he would have to say.
"What? " He questioned angrily. "Don't tell me you are going to tell me that bullshit too?"
"Demmy... It's not bullshit. It's just a question."
"And to answer that question of yours, never. I'm never going to." He snapped.
"Demilade."
"Don't push it, Lola. You can not change my mind." He stated firmly.
"I know you are angry and mad at him. No one says you shouldn't. But it's enough already. I'm not asking him to call him father or stuff like that. I just want you to let it all go. Just forgive him. It's time you let go of all those grudges." She advised very calmly.
He scoffed and answered. "I'm surprised to hear that from you Lola. Really. You want me to forgive that man?"
"You can do it, Demmy. It is going to be hard but you can find it in you to let it go."
"It's not impossible, yes. But it is not going to happen to me. Do you know what he did to me? Don't you get it?" He asked angrily. His hand was clenched to a ball at his side, his adam apple moved up and down with veins popping out the side. His whole body was tensed and filled with rage. His voice held so much venom and pain.
Something Lola had never seen. She had seen him angry and furious. But not to the extent he was at that moment. He was truly angry and hurt.
"I heard everything. I understand."
"You don't Lola." He snapped at her causing her to jerk back a little. Then he stood up angrily. Then he turned to face her. "You don't because if you do, you won't be telling me this. This man broke my mother. He hurt her. I grew up without a father. He never acknowledged me. Why should I give a damn about him?"
