Lola sighed defeatedly. She guessed he wasn't ready to talk about it with her.
"It's okay. Whenever you are ready to tell me, you can tell me then." Lola reassured him, despite that was not what she wanted.
Although, she was a bit hurt that he wasn't ready to open up to her about that side of his life. She wanted to hear his side of the story. She wants to know that part of him. That other side of him that he kept away.
"Why do you want to know about him?" He suddenly asked. And her face lit up a little. "There is nothing worth knowing about Lawrence." He said without looking at her.
She moved closer to him. "He is still your father. And he is a part of you. I want to know about that part of you Demilade."
"He had never been a part of me, Lola." He told her sternly. "Not once. I don't even consider him a father. He is a total stranger to me." He looked at her briefly. And Lola could swear that she sees the hatred and anger in his eyes.
"Demmy... He might not be a part of your life like you wanted... But he is still your father. He gave birth to you. The same blood runs through your vein." Lola said quietly.
He scoffed. "That's just it. The blood. Unfortunately. It's just the fucking red liquid in us and the damn chromosome. But he is no father to me. I never have a father."
Lola sighed. She now understands what Bayo was talking about. And Demilade can be very stubborn and even cold when he wants to be.
Imagine him being seductive and happy a while ago but now, he was so cold.
"Do you still want to tell me why you don't like him?"
"Don't like?" He sneered. And said nothing else. Leaving Lola a bit confused.
"I don't understand. Talk to me then." She said calmly.
"I don't like talking about him." He said. His voice was calm but she can tell the anger and venom in the voice. And she hates when he talked like that. It shows he is pained and very angry. He must really hate his father. She thought.
She placed a hand on his and he seemed to calm down a bit.
"But can you talk to me about it? I know you don't like talking about it but please... For me. I want to know that part of you. I'm here for you. I'm here to listen to your own story. Just open up to me babe. Please." She convinced him.
Slowly, he nodded. "Okay." He was angry but she knew he was ready to talk. So she decided to ask what she had in mind because she don't think he will open up about it again.
"Then why do you hate him so much?"
He laughed dryly, looking at the tab in his hand. "How do you know I hate him?"
"Your tone when you said him. And you never talk about your father. You also hate your surname. I noticed how your countenance change any time someone called or mention your surname. You mostly go by your first name." She answered his question.
He gave a tight smile. "You are impressive Lola." And he paused.
Calmly and patiently, she said. "But you have not answered my question, Demmy."
"I have a lot of reasons to hate him. A whole lot." He retorted.
"But don't you think hate is a strong word? He is still your... Father."
He gave that humorless laugh again.
"Hate is not strong for how I feel about him. If there is a bigger word to describe hate, I would use it. And he is not my father... Who gives a damn if he donates a sperm?"
