Chapter 24

"Are you kidding, Dad?"

I don't know what life is wanting to do with me, grabe naman 'tong araw na 'to. I can't believe it. Was that even possible? Leave your family for another man? That's too much for me to bear. I know Mom and Dad are fighting, but I thought it's just normal! Never in my life I expected that this would happen.

"Kailan pa?!" I shouted because they're not answering me.

"Last week pa siya hindi umuuwi, Calynn." Dad replied. Parang nanlambot 'yung tuhod ko. Agad akong napaupo sa sofa namin. It's impossible. I know mom. "Hindi ko rin inakalang magagawa niya 'yon, Calynn." he added.

Hindi ko napigilang umiyak, no way! Ang hirap tanggapin. My mom? Pinagpalit kami for another man? Just when I thought my life was perfect, hindi pala. Ang hirap.

"Bakit daw?" I cried while asking my dad.

"I don't know, Calynn." Dad replied. I covered my mouth. Ate immediately sat beside mo to hug me and caress my back.

"We're still here, Calynn." Ate console me. Ilang minuto pa akong umiiyak kay Ate nang maalala ko si Steve. Tumayo ako agad sa sofa namin.

"Ate, I need to go home." I wiped my tears. She nodded kaya umalis na ako.

Tulala lang ako habang papunta sa condo, I still can't process what happened. Anong nangyari? Bakit niya kami iniwan?

"Hi, love." mahinang bati ko pagpasok ng kwarto. I sat down on the bed, kinapa ko 'yung noo niya at medyo bumaba na 'yung lagnat niya.

"I feel better now, love." umupo siya mula sa pagkakahiga at niyakap ako sa gilid ko habang nakaupo kami. "Thank you." he kissed my cheeks.

"Always, love." tipid akong ngumiti.

"Are you okay? You look sad." hindi ko namamalayan na tumutulo na pala 'yung luha ko. "Love, what happened?" he asked, looking worried.

I wiped my tears and looked at him. "I just had a bad day in school, love. I'll be fine." I smiled before standing up to prepare our dinner. Doon na kami kumain sa table dahil kaya na raw niya. Nakatulala lang ako habang kumakain kami.

I had a very bad recit in class and I just found out that my mother left us for another man. What a bad day!

I looked at Steve while he's eating. Nang mapansin niya na nakatitig ako sa kaniya, he smiled.

Maybe it's really not that bad after all.

As long as I am going home to him.

Halos araw-araw akong malungkot, paminsan-minsan ay bumibisita ako kay Lian to check on her. I am here at school at wala akong naprepare kay Steve for our fourth anniversary. I just feel so drain.

"Bakit parang lagi kang tahimik?" Lisa asked me while we're sitting in the plantbox, waiting for our prof.

"May iniisip lang." I smiled sadly.

Gio leaned a bit to see me, nasa gitna kasi si Lisa. "Okay lang yan! Nandito kami. Gusto mo inom tayo?" Gio asked me.

"Anniversary namin ni Steve ngayon, next time na lang." I said, trying to force a smile on my face.

Pagkalabas ko ng school, I saw Steve's car that made me smile. Lumabas siya nang makita niya ako at pinagbuksan ako ng pintuan.

"Happy 4th anniversary." bati niya sa akin nang makapasok siya sa car.

"Happy anniversary. Where are we going?" I asked him.

"To our favorite place." he smiled before fixing my seatbelt. "I noticed that you're sad these past few days, weeks and months. Sana masabi mo na sa akin one of these days." dagdag niya bago pinaandar 'yung sasakyan.
