Chapter 3: Making Gains

Start from the beginning

Y/n hummed and went to buy stocks only to be asked for credit card information. "Oh what? Ugh I forgot I don't have a credit card, nor can I get one." He sighed in defeat before Pair came up with an idea.

"Mayor Dewey ... I guess I could give him the money to invest and cash it in after they're worth something." Y/n thought over Pair's plan, it wasn't a bad one, he still gets to buy stock and Mayor Dewey doesn't really have anything to lose.

"Sure, we can talk to him later but while I'm here ..." He said, quickly typing in Beach City on the internet. It soon popped up with a map, pointing to the location of Beach City. "Delmarva ... I don't remember that being a US state ..." He mumbled as he zoomed out to get a look at the map of Earth.

"Ooh boy ... this isn't good ..." Y/n said as Pair beeped in concern.

The two stared at the screen, analysing how different the map looks. Russia had a chunk missing while South America doubled in size, areas were just ... wrong. "Maybe it isn't time travel after all ..." He said, shutting the computer down and carrying Pair back to the van. Pair made some more concerned beeps as they left the building and Y/n unlocked the van, placing Pair in the passenger's seat as Y/n sat behind the wheel.

"If its not time travel ... what could it be? A different timeline?" Y/n spoke, making Pair agree with him.

"I guess a different timeline would make sense ... it was that stupid machine I had to destroy ... this is how I'm thanked .." He sighed once again, starting the car, and headed back to the camp.

Y/n had returned to Beach City, but instead of parking in the camp, he drove right up to the Mayor's building. Parking in a car park nearby and getting out. "Stay here Pair." He said simply as he walked towards the building, entering through a revolving door. A receptionist was sat at her desk seemingly bored.

"Would I be able to talk to the Mayor?" Y/n asked politely as he walked up to her desk.

"Have you got an appointment?" She questioned, looking Y/n up and down.

"No?" He responded, thinking it didn't really matter.

She sighed. "He's right through there." Nodding to the door on her right. Thanking her, Y/n quietly opened the door, spotting the Mayor on the found at a desk of his own.

"What do you mean you can't make it? In three weeks I want that big bowl of ice cream!" The mayor demanded to whoever was the poor sap on the other end. "No, I will not be put on hold! Hello?" Mayor Dewey groaned as he slammed the phone down, looking over towards Y/n with a smile to replace the frown he just had.

"Y/n isn't it? I've heard you're quite the handy man, helping the citizens of this fair town." The Mayor said, standing from his chair and walking up to Y/n, putting an arm around his shoulders waving at the ceiling.

"Yes, been trying to earn some money." He responded, finding it weird that the Mayor was so close to him. 'I don't think this guy understands personal space ...' Y/n thought as the Mayor continued.

"So, what bring you here on this fine day?" Mayor Dewey said, getting off of Y/n and walking back to his desk.

"Well, I could use your help with something ..." Y/n said, gaining the interest of the Mayor.

"Yes, of course, anything for such a humble citizen." He said, finally sitting at his desk.

"I was hoping that you could help me invest this money, I don't have a credit card, so you'd have to buy the stocks, but you get the money straight away." Y/n pulled out 200-dollars, gaining it from doing all the work no one really wanted to do or knew how to.

The Mayor seemed to be more interested. "Okay, but on one condition." Mayor Dewey said, pulling out his laptop and logging in. "You have to vote for me in the next election." He bargained.

Y/n chuckled internally; he couldn't get a credit card let alone the right to vote in elections. "Sure, why not." Y/n said, walking up to his desk and handing Mayor Dewey the money.

"So, what are we investing in?" The Mayor had already loaded up the stock exchange website as Y/n stood behind him.

"Lion Lickers and Le Hotel." Y/n responded as he watched the Mayor pay for 100-dollars' worth of stocks in each company.

"I'll leave it to you, but I would've invested in Cookie Cat." The Mayor whispered as if he thought he was a genius at the stock exchange.

"Right ... well, keep me updated on how they do, I plan on using any money I get from them to build a cottage up in the forest." Y/n walked back around the table to face Dewey as he got ready to leave.

"Yes I will keep you updated, but if you do get the money, run it by me first I might have other opportunities for you." The mayor said, closing his laptop and smiling towards Y/n.

"No problem." Y/n simply nodded, turning around, and walking to the door. Before he could open it the Mayor said one last thing about vote for Dewey, to which, Y/n nodded again, finally free of that dodgy guy as he left his office and soon the building.

Y/n was quick to return to the van which made Pair beep happily as he sat in the driver's seat. "Okay, the stocks are taken care of, let's get back to the camp." Y/n started the car as he reversed out of his spot and then forward as he went back onto the road.

He followed the road for a few minutes before he turned and started on a more country style road, it was only a few minutes after that is when he and Pair had arrived back at camp.

"I suppose I should move the tent n' all, I can just sleep in the van, next to you and the armour." Y/n said, getting out of the van and walking over to the camping equipment. Pair had decided to stay in the van but climbed into the back so he could organise Y/n's armour.

It didn't take Y/n long to disassemble the tent, it was rather small, so it was probably better to live in the van anyway. He opened the back doors to the van and noticed that Pair had helped make a bit of space so he could place down the blankets he had.

"Thanks Pair." He said, placing the blankets down and then hiding the tent near the corner, out of the way.

"I guess I should make some food huh?" Y/n said out loud, even though he wasn't necessarily speaking to Pair, the small drone still beeped in agreement.

Y/n relit the campfire to keep him warm as he looked into his backpack and pulled out a cheese sandwich and bottle of water he brought from the shop. Eating and drinking them quickly, the sun had begun setting as he ate the food, placing the rubbish back in the backpack for him to empty out later.

"That reminds me, I need to take stock of the supplies I have now. Pass me everything that I have in my suit." He spoke to Pair, who was quick to retrieve the things he wanted.

Pair didn't pass him much, rather two extra magazines for his M1911, his hunting knife, a roll of duct tape and a small first aid kit. "Really this is it? I thought I would've had a bit more, namely the smoke and Semtex grenades ... they probably got lost in the explosion ..." Y/n sighed, turning to his bag, and looking at the supplies he has in there.

"I've got a few rusty tools and pieces of scrap metal in here ... along with enough food and water to last me a few days before I need to restock ... let's hope those stocks I brought were worth it ..." He said, seeing that he only had around 20-dollars left.

Placing everything into his bag, including the things that Pair had passed him, he rested the bag against the back of the van before he sat on the edge. "Listen Pair ... I don't think we're gonna be going home anytime soon ... or ever really ... whatever that device was, its long gone now ... meaning we're probably stuck here ..." Y/n groaned, causing beeps of encouragement to sound from Pair.

"Heh, this is why I like having you around." He smiled, patting the small drone's head once again. Y/n's focus soon turned back to the sky, noticing it was finally beginning to get dark, he decided to call it a day and head to sleep.

Once again he lay down, this time staring at the van roof, thinking he might be able to leave his old life behind and start anew. His eyelids closed as the fire remained lit, illuminating the area, maybe he would get another chance ... Maybe.
