FM Pilot Script: Part One

Pilot Script Part One (newest draft as of 5/8/21)

DEX: What came up?

Hayes looks at Maxine, debates for a moment, then sighs.

HAYES: The Council is causing trouble.

Dex and Lee look confused.

DEX: Yeah... mate, that's the sort of thing you never told us about. Something about not working here long enough and stuff.

LEE: (quietly to Dex) Even though we've been here longer than like, half the people here.

HAYES: (annoyed) I heard that. You only started working here two years ago, don't put yourselves on that high of a pedestal.

LEE: We've still been here for a while.

HAYES: (sighs again) Listen. To put it plainly, The Council is a rival organization of sorts. They focus more on recruiting and training assassins, bounty hunters, and mercenaries for the sole purpose of stirring up trouble or taking out anyone they don't like. The V.I.U. was formed to either control The Council, or take them down. A mission that's been taking decades to complete. We've stopped them on multiple missions, and in response they've been stopping us. It's been like that ever since The Council found out our goal, and nothing had changed since.

MAXINE: Not exactly. Didn't we form a truce with them?

HAYES: Neither of us took that truce seriously.

LEE: They sound like a bunch of a-holes.

HAYES: Yes, yes they are.

Hayes hesitates.

HAYES: They are also the top suspects in Agent Fischer's disappearance.

Lee becomes a little more engaged in the conversation. She leans back in her chair, nodding slowly.

LEE: Huh...

HAYES: They are also the ones we believe took Markovetz.

DEX: (quickly) Wait, what?

HAYES: Shaw and Keller have encountered a few Council agents, and Agent Woods has detected some Council movement here.

DEX: In the city? Does that mean Markovetz could be here?

HAYES: It's possible. Wood has gone out searching for them with half of the agents present this month so I need you two to stay late tonight in case he runs into any trouble.

DEX/LEE: Pardon?/What?

DEX: What if I want to help look?

HAYES: (firm) Absolutely not. I will not in good conscience send you or Lee into any kind of danger. We have no idea what's waiting for us out there, you two are to stay here until Agents Shaw and Keller return from their flight. They'll take over your shift.

LEE: And, what time would that be?

HAYES: I don't know. But they should be back before 2am at the latest.

Both Dex and Lee make motions to protest, but Hayes holds up his hand, stopping them.

HAYES: (firm) That's an order you two.

Hayes is about to leave, but he pauses for a moment and turns around.
