He had grown a place in her heart, maybe even pushing Adrien out in the process, and she didn't know what she could do about that. Then there was Luka, and that was a whole other situation in itself, as it appeared that Chat and Luka now held equally bright candles in her heart. While Adrien's place grew smaller and smaller, the light for that tunnel diminishing to not but a spark, little more than a crush.
"Oh, by the way I didn't tell you, did I? I have a girlfriend." Chat turned and looked at her with a small smile on his face. Marinette felt her heart sink to the bottom of her stomach.
"Really? That's so awesome." She pretended to be excited for him, plastering what she hoped was a realistic looking smile on her face.
"No, it's not awesome at all." Chat suddenly frowned, looking away sadly.
"I just said that to make you jealous." He peered at her out of the corner of his eye and she had to contain herself from releasing the sigh of relief that threatened to escape.
"I can't be in love with you Cat Noir. You know that." She smiled sweetly, though deep inside she wanted to say the exact opposite. Even more so, when she saw his sad expression, as he turned his face to look at his swinging feet.
"Yeah, yeah. I get it." He deflated sadly and closed his eyes. Marinette felt her heart wrench.
He stood up suddenly and pulled out his baton.
"But it still hurts." He sighed loudly and launched away, leaving Ladybug to herself.
The Heroine looked after him, wanting desperately to follow after the sad cat. But she held herself there and slouched down, thinking about what she would give to just tell him the truth.
'While others lose their soul.'
Natalie carried a box of garden tools past Gabriel. She stopped suddenly and dropped them, falling to her knees in a coughing fit.
Gabriel noticed immediately and rushed to her side, holding her so she didn't completely fall.
She looked up and nodded that she was okay, allowing him to turn back to the flowers he had been pruning.
He looked up at his wife, suspended in her cryo sleep chamber, the white butterflies fluttering delicately about her angelic-like being.
He continued to watch his assistant, and close friend, from the corner of his eye. Making sure she was truly okay.
'While some lose their certainties.'
Marinette sat on her bed, an unsure expression on her face, mixed emotions passing as she scrolled on her phone.
She looked through her gallery at pictures of her friends, stopping on some ones of Adrien. Her finger hovered over the photo and she looked at it, torn in her decision.
She huffed and selected a large amount of his photos, the ones from his photo shoots, ones that she least liked. She then hovered for a moment over the trash icon.
She was unsure but ultimately decided that it was for the best. After all, he was a close friend and it wasn't like she was getting rid of all of them.
She pressed the button and watched as over a hundred photos were moved to her junk folder.
She looked at what remained and smiled as she saw her favourite photo shoot pictures and a bunch of him with their other friends.
She had swiped onto a closeup picture of him when she got a notification at the top of her screen.
She looked at the name and her face became one of shock, before settling into a soft smile, a small blush in her cheeks. Luka.
Adrien swiped through his photos of ladybug, giving a sad sound. He swiped again and landed on a picture of Marinette, all dressed up for a cooking day that had happened in school.
