"Good afternoon sir." The man replied.
"I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting. I told them that I won't be entertaining any visitors so they didn't tell me you were here until now. I apologize sir."
"No no, it is okay. I understand you are a busy man." He said politely like he usually did and Demilade couldn't help but feel awkward.
"Thank you, sir." He said, gratefully. And then he sat down opposite him.
Mr Bamidele could tell something was different with Demilade. The way he spoke with him was different. Even his body reaction. He was feeling uncomfortable something that he had never seen in his boss.
He was a confident young man. Even despite their age difference, he always admires him. He admires his confidence and determination, his enthusiasm in all he does and also his 'no time to waste' principle.
But that man wasn't sitting in his presence. It was someone else. Someone new and it felt strange.
"Sir, I came to talk about my job with you." Mr Bamidele spoke.
"Call me Demilade sir. Please." He said. It was now super awkward that he was calling him sir. He didn't mind it before but not anymore.
The man shifted in his seat. He wasn't expecting that. So he just nodded.
"My daughter is back home, so I was thinking that I should return to work." He said hopefully.
Demilade looked at the man. He was a bit dumbfounded. How was he going to let the father of his girlfriend work for him? That was not going to ever happen. He thought.
"Sir, didn't Lola tell you anything?" He asked. He doesn't want to be the one to tell the man. He hopes Lola had talked with her family.
"She didn't tell me anything about the job." He replied.
"No not the job sir." The man just stared at him blankly. "Mr Bamidele, you can't work for me anymore."
"Sir.."
"Demilade sir."
"Dem... Demilade.."
"You didn't do anything wrong sir but I'm in a relationship with your daughter. Lola is now my girlfriend. Didn't she tell you?"
The man said nothing but just leaned back on the chair, sighed and he looked away. He was now sure why Demilade was uncomfortable around him.
"She did." He said without looking at him.
There was a way he said the words that made Demilade believe he didn't accept the news well. He wasn't pleased with it that is why he still came for the job.
"Sir, can we talk about it?" He asked.
The man looked at him briefly before he looked away again. The truth was he didn't know what to say. He found the relationship matter ridiculous and that is why he had waved it off with his daughter. But now Demilade was mentioning it.
He had hoped it was a sick joke but he wasn't so sure about that now. He finds it strange that he will be talking to his boss who turns out to want to be in a relationship with his daughter about that relationship with that same daughter. He doesn't trust him with his daughter.
In fact, he doesn't trust any man with his daughter.
So he was quiet.
Demilade decided to break the silence.
"Sir... I know about how I came about meeting your daughter. She needed a job and that is why we met in the first place. We met through you and we started a contract relationship... But that is not the case anymore. Things change. I love your daughter." The man said nothing. He just stared at his intertwined fingers.
