The dagger glinted in the moonlight that was filtering through the skylights in the ceiling.

I stalked through the house, noiselessly.

My bare feet were swift and sure as they swept across the creaky floorboards without a sound. My long black hair was pinned up in a neat bun, away from my face and off my shoulders so it didn't cause me hindrance in my mission.

My prey stumbled, faltered...his breathing spiked, sweat beading on his brow – he knew I had come for him and he knew he wouldn't see the light of day. As he tried to grab for one of the doors off the corridor, the wound I had inflicted earlier gained momentum and the blood flowed quicker from his shoulder. He lost feeling in his arm and when he realised he no longer had the willpower to move it, he let out a long low whimper.

For all the hateful and disgusting crimes this fool had committed, he deserved a long and painful death – but sadly the night was calling for me and I didn't have the time. With a sigh I crept out of the shadows and as quick as a snake, my dagger tore into the soft flesh of his throat. Blood shot out in quick spurts and then as quiet as a whisper, I laid his body on the floor.

Whoever found him, hopefully after a few days – the body would be starting to decompose and any signs of my dagger being the weapon would be harder to tell.

They'd still know he'd been murdered – but by then I'd be long gone.

As I crept back out of the house, I wiped my dagger quickly on some gold encrusted curtains that were hanging in the hallway. Such splendour seemed like a slap in the face when you had grown up knowing nothing.

I slipped my dagger back into its holster on my thigh and grabbed my leather biker jacket from hanging on the flower basket in the porch. See, I was cocky but not stupid. The scum of a creature I'd just killed lived in the countryside on the outskirts of Moscow in a small town called Tarusa. Humans were few and far between but I knew he hadn't chosen this place for the view. No, it was so nobody could hear their screams.

As I ran off towards the river Oka, that familiar buzz from ridding the world of another despicable creature swept through me and the stars in the night sky seemed to wink back at me. I ran till my lungs burned and my feet ached, I kept running even as the water line sped up to meet my pounding feet. Then I was off, airborne for a second and then landing gracefully like a panther into a speed boat, which as soon as my feet hit the deck, sped off into the night – never to be seen again.
