_____

No one knew where she came from. A girl with dull grey eyes and wispy long hair that seemed to be half ebony and half ivory, tangled together in a mess which anyone could notice hadn't been brushed for days. It became apparent the young girl was malnourished- her clothes sagging off of her and the sight of her cheekbones would make anyone's skin crawl. Yet, she still held an essence of beauty which made anyone who turned her way pity her for being in the condition she was, giving her any spare change that they could find, wrapping spare items of clothing around her, asking her where her parents were and if she were lost. It pained anyone to see such a small little thing in such a condition. She grew up like this for many years to come, taking whatever was offered and living off of the few small things she could afford.

After gathering enough money, she headed back to the small, abandoned building at the end of the road. She had counted the change in her hand numerous amount of times, worrying if this was going to be enough. She sighed ever so slightly, looking up to catch a glimpse at the sunset that had formed a brilliant hue that looked like a painter had spilt a fair amount of red and orange paint on a fresh canvas. She loved sunsets; they brought about a certain type of comfort she didn't feel elsewhere.

She was tired. No, exhausted. She hadn't slept much that night because of the wind rattling against the door that had worn down terribly. She told herself she would fix it eventually but never did. She huffed as she walked into the place she called home and set aside the money in a small dish on the table next to her makeshift bed. It wasn't much, but it was far better than any other option. She took off her tattered clothes and slung them to one side, opening up a small metal suitcase which proved to be the only valuable thing within the building. She opened it carefully as it created a small, satisfying click which brought about a small smirk on the side of her face. She stared at the item before her, letting out a small mutter about how precious it was, before finally taking out what seemed to be a suit out of the case. She threw the clothes on quickly- a pair of combat trousers which allowed her to move quickly in the air and on the ground, along with a white hoodie and leather jacket that made her feel badass. She paired this with white fingerless gloves and a white facemask, slinging her hood up to conceal her identity in any way possible- not that anyone really knew her name- she just didn't want to be caught.

Being a vigilante only started as a petty way to make money. She never intended to cause harm to anyone and had made herself the promise that once things got too complicated she would back out- this was purely about survival. She was not one for heroes, she had never been a fan. The world had become corrupt with a need for money and fame, something which disgusted her to her core. But she understood their essence- after a while of living on the streets, she became aware of the dangers of villains. Overall, both seemed so greedy and pathetic she couldn't bear the thought of becoming one. Her duty now became to fix what had once been broken- to care for those the heroes could not save because they were too busy being vain and signing autographs, capturing local villains, and handing them over to the police without a word, all whilst gathering enough intel of the generations of heroes so that one day, she would finally restore the system- a system of heroes who fought for the people, not for the money or fame.

She walked onto the roof of the abandoned building, walking to the edge, and staring down onto the ground which stood a good 50ft below her. She took a few steps back before running straight ahead, leaping from building to building like a professional acrobat, somersaulting in the air countless times, looking as though she was nothing more than a parkour game that a child may play. As she got to the end of her trail, she took her last jump, landing on the building which seemed significantly lower, her knees lowered with her fingertips pressed against the floor, holding her steady as she regained her breath. It had been a while since she had last done that, but now the fun and games were over; it was time to get to real business. She scanned the area below, looking for any suspicious activity. She had become so engrossed in what she was doing, her face full of concentration. But that didn't stop her from being alert of her surroundings at all times, and so when a pair of vermillion wings could be spotted making their way towards her, she didn't hesitate for even a second. She grunted, annoyed that he was tailing her, but in no way surprised. She wasn't stupid- she had noticed the past couple of nights those same pair of wings had been following her, watching her activity to look for any mistakes- any giveaway to who she could be. But that was his mistake, for believing she could be so naïve to do such a thing. It wasn't like he could stop her; she may have been suspicious and on the watchlist, but she never caused any harm, and more importantly, she never used her quirk in public.

'What do you want, Hawks?' She turned, her head remained lowered so he could not see her eyes, but by the playful tone in her voice, he knew she was smiling. 'I haven't done anything wrong, have I?' Her voice now sarcastic- she knew what she was doing. It annoyed him that all he could do was watch, for now.

'Watch your tone, kid.' He stated, his voice seething with venom. He was tired of being told to follow what seemed to be a teenage girl who spent her time jumping from building to building to watch for suspicious activity. He had contemplated giving up, going back and reporting that despite this, she was nothing more than an ordinary girl who liked to cause some trouble but never caused any harm. His gut begged to differ though- he knew there was more to her than met her eye.

'I'm sorry to cut this short, but I really need to go' She waved as she chuckled lightly. She got up and made her way to the edge, about to jump, before she noticed a single feather begin to tug her towards the winged pro-hero. Dammit, she thought. She was too tired to do this, she just wanted to go home and sleep. She decided not to resist and turned back around so she now stood a few meters away facing the hero. 'What is it you want?'

He let out a small sigh, one which he played off to be of exhaustion, but she knew better- it was more of a sigh of relief. 'You know my hero name, the least you could do is tell me yours.' She froze for a few seconds, thinking about what to do or say.

She finally looked up, meeting his eyes so he could finally see hers. She could tell he was taken aback slightly- he had finally caught a glimpse of her, even if it was just the uncovered half of her face. But her eyes were far from what he had expected. They were beautiful. Mysterious. Rare. But what he found most intriguing of all, lifeless.

'I'm not one for names, but I guess you could call me Yin Yang'.
