I Found Peace With You (Anniversary Special)

Start from the beginning

"Take a deep breath, and we go," Nile instructs, holding out his arm once again as you step fully out of the carriage.

You do as he says, taking in a large breath of air before letting it roll out of you. You wrap your arm around his with a nod of your head.

As you reach the door, you can hear music playing, the end of Hange's chosen song. The final notes ring through your ears, muffled by the double doors until it dies down for a moment. The Scout standing at the door knocks once against the door, and the first note starts to play.

Your first note.

Nile looks at you, nodding his head with a smile as the two Scouts gently push open the doors.

Inside, the room is quiet as everyone has turned to look at you. Scouts line the front room, standing on the sides of the carpet. They're the younger ones, the newest recruits. As you walk past, they all salute you, standing stalk still.

Inside the main room, as the doors are pulled open, time itself stops for you. You gaze across the faces of close friends, your squad, your tiny family (and Historia and Ymir as they take their seats, fresh rose petals on the ground), before finally stopping on your partners.

Each is dressed in a matching design, a navy blue suit with gold and silver designs across the shoulders of the fabric, their medals tucked neatly in their collar. Hange's suit jacket is overtop of their white dress, something they'd picked out on their own. Short and sweet, a sweetheart neckline and a small cupcake skirt.

A shaky breath leaves your lips as you walk down the aisle. Small tears prick the corners of your eyes before you can even reach the vows. Thankfully, Nile is there to keep you steady, guiding you all the way down the aisle and up to Mike and Hange. The two of them give you soft smiles, with Mike offering you his hand.

Nile walks off to Erwin's side as you intertwined your fingers with Mike's, facing the minister as he starts to prattle.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here in the sight of the Gods, and in the presence of family and friends to join together these five in Holy Matrimony, which is commended of Ymir to be an honourable estate, instituted of the Gods and therefore is not to be entered into unadvisedly or carelessly, but reverently, joyfully and in the love of the Gods. Into this holy estate, these five people present come now to be joined..."

"- Now, I believe you five have written your own vows?" the minister asks as he finishes his speech.

Next to you, Erwin nods his head, answering the minister. Your attention is shifted from the minister to Erwin as he takes out a small piece of paper from his pocket, stares at it, and replaces it without even unfolding it.

"I had written them out, yet no matter how many times I go to edit them, they feel stiff. So please excuse if I repeat myself during this -" he confesses as he tucks the paper away -
"I, Erwin Smith, take the five of you, Hange Zoe, Mike Zacharias, Levi Ackermann, and (Y/N), to be my spouses for today and every tomorrow that the world should give us. I promise to be true to you, no matter how we find ourselves. That in sickness and in health, I shall be there for you as you were for me. I will love and honour you for all of my days because I know just how quickly that can be taken from us. Because I love you."

The room stays silent as you feel tears slowly trickling down your face, a bright smile on your face. Levi coughs slightly, taking out a piece of paper from his pocket and drawing the attention to him, shifting off the sniffling mess Erwin had become.

"I, Levi Ackermann, commit myself to you. To all of you. I know I've said these words before, that I've promised you the same wishes in a different circumstance, so you know that I will never break them. I know this may sound stiff and that I'm just reading words off a piece of paper, but I couldn't trust myself not to forget my words the moment I saw Erwin and (Y/N) crying. With all my heart, I vow to learn and grow with you, to explore and adventure with you, to respect you in every way one is to be respected. In the foreknowledge of joy and pain, strength and weariness, direction and doubt, for all the risings and settings of the sun, I will be there."
