EMMA'S POV
It's been two weeks since our encounter with Lori, or as Carter likes to call her, mom. I'm sure you are wondering what happened, so I'll tell you.
~Two weeks ago at the fro-yo place~
"Mom?" Carter asked, getting up from her chair and giving Lori a hug.
"Carter!" Lori exclaimed. "Oh my! How are you?!"
"Im, uh, okay." Carter said awkwardly.
"Are they treating you alright?" Lori asked, checking Carter's body for any bruises or scratches.
Typical. She cares about Carter, not me. I should be used to this, but it still hurts.
"I'm fine." Carter said, pushing her off. "You know you can't be here, mom! There are police all over looking for you!"
"Don't worry about me, Carter, I'll be just fine." Lori said.
I walked over and sat closer to Taylor. I did not feel safe, not with Lori here.
"You okay?" Taylor whispered to me. I shook my head.
"Want me to call Elizabeth?" Taylor asked. I nodded my head repeatedly. "Okay."
Taylor got up and went outside to make the phone call.
"Emma!" I turned my head to be met with Lori. Crap. "How have you been?" She asked me, smirking evilly. I rolled my eyes and made my way to Taylor, who was outside of the fro-yo place.
"Mom is on her way here. Get your stuff!" Taylor said, hanging up her cell phone.
I walked back inside to find Carter and Lori nowhere. I quickly grabbed my jacket and walked back outside to Taylor.
"Where's Carter?" She asked. I shrugged, because I truly didn't know.
Fifteen minutes had passed and still no sign of Lori or Carter. Elizabeth pulled into the parking lot and ran up to us, in her police uniform. I suppose Taylor told her what's going on.
"Is everybody okay?" Elizabeth asked in a rush.
"We're fine, but we don't know where Carter and Lori went." Taylor said.
"You lost them?!" Elizabeth said worriedly. "Oh God! What if Lori took Carter again . . . What if-"
"She's fine." Lori said coming out of the fro-yo place with Carter.
Carter didn't look fine, though. Carter had duct tape on her mouth, rope tied her hands together, she had a big purple bruise forming on her left cheek, tears streaming down her face. I ran up to Carter, hugging her. Whilst I did this, Elizabeth took this as a chance to finally catch Lori. And that's what she did. Elizabeth arrested Lori.
I quickly untied Carter, ripping the duct tape from her mouth, which caused her to yelp.
"We did it! We're going to be okay, Carter!" I exclaimed, hugging her. I finally talked, because for once in my life, I felt safe. And that's all I ever asked for.
Carter looked at me shocked, "Yeah, we are going to be okay."
~Two weeks later, Present day~
And we are okay. We're more than okay. We're safe.
