Chapter 35 - Through The Roots

Start from the beginning

"Is it so wrong to be hopelessly, desperately, and longingly attracted to the mother of my child? Hmm?" Loki whispers, gazing into your eyes as he slowly tugs on the tie of your robe until it slides open, falling to the sides of your stomach, revealing the cleavage of your swollen breasts. He leans forward, placing his lips on yours, and sliding his tongue over your bottom lip, begging for entry into your mouth.

"Nice try," you scold, pulling your robe closed over your belly.

"So you're saying you didn't bathe for me?" he says salaciously, trying once more to wrap his arms around your waist and pull you close as his lips peck the tip of your nose, then your cheek, and finally try once more to find your lips. "And you didn't slip my own garments onto your supple, naked body to tempt my sensibilities?"

"You won't let me do laundry," you laugh, throwing your arms around his neck and allowing him to steal a quick, chaste kiss. "So yes, I used your robe. But only because mine is dirty," you quip playfully turning your cheek so his next kiss lands nearly on your ear. "So, have you made any progress?" you ask, nodding at the mess on the living room floor.

Loki lets out a sigh and rolls his eyes, placing one last kiss on your cheek before taking your hand and leading you over to the sofa, which he has pushed out of the way of the maps and up against the wall. He seats you before returning to the cartographical epicenter of the room.

"I have a plan," Loki says quietly, looking over all the maps and their respective markings.

You groan from the couch. "I hate it when you have plans. They never go as...well, planned."

Loki lets out a laugh.

"What?" you ask.

"You are so like him. It's incredible, really, that you have no bond of blood," Loki says.

"Like who?" you ask.

"Your father-figure," Loki smirks, casting you a loving, yet slightly annoyed glance.

Despite the painful twinge in your heart at the mention of Tony, you can't help the smile that plays at the corner of your lips. You miss him. But it feels nice that Loki sees him in you, and doesn't really mind.

But Loki spots the melancholy that flashes in your eyes, and sighs. "We will reunite with your family," Loki whispers. "One step at a time."

"One at a time," you whisper back. "And first, we need to figure out how to get this baby out of me, so...go," you laugh, gesturing toward the maps. "Do what you need to do."

Loki nods, and you fall quiet as Loki returns his focus to the maps, occasionally marking something down or sketching out a symbol of some kind. You're watching him work and thinking about Tony, when suddenly you feel that familiar pain in your lower back.

"Oh no," you wince, your breath catching as the muscles in your back spasm.

Loki knows immediately what's wrong by the tone in your voice. Since that first episode over a week ago, you have experienced two others. Each one lasting slightly longer than the one before.

"I'm here, darling," Loki says, picking you up from the sofa and carrying you to the bedroom.

He lays you down on your side, and takes the damp towel from your hair, tossing it on the floor. Quickly, he moves to the dresser and pulls out a set of underwear and a large sleep dress. Helping you peel the robe from your body, Loki helps you slide on the undergarment, and then pulls the soft sleep dress over your head, helping you to get comfortable.

"Can I have the pillow?" you ask.

Loki smiles and places a kiss on your forehead before grabbing the spare pillow from the wardrobe, and sliding it between your thighs. You had both discovered during the last episode that it helped relieve some of the pain.
