Trapped Again

"How did this happen?" Matt asked. He landed a fist against the concrete wall.

The viruses had thrown the group into a cell in their dungeon. It didn't seem much different than the room they  had placed you in. It was cold, damp, and musty. The walls were concrete and there were no windows. The door was solid iron. There was no knob or keyhole

"I don't know," Nate said, answering Matt's question. He laid on the single bench in the cell, staring at the ceiling.

Sean turned to Mark, who was crouched by the door. "Mark, stop it. It's not gonna do any good."

"No. There has to be a way out," Mark stated. He punched the solid wall. "There has to!"

He had been fiddling at the door and trying to find a way out for as long as they had been in the cell. But nothing. For the first time, their situation seemed hopeless.

"They've always used a key before," Matt pointed out. "But it doesn't seem like that's the case this time."

"What happened to 'get in, get (y/n), and get out?' " Nate asked. "That seemed like a good plan to me."

"What even happened to (y/n)?" Matt asked. "She looked...weird."

"She was beaten," Mark stated. His heart and his voice broke at the thought. "They did something to her."

"We couldn't move her," Sean pointed out. "It was like, as soon as we tried, they were there."

"Why do they have to be 'all knowing?' " Mark asked, dejectedly.

The room went silent. The atmosphere was heavy. Each of them unsure, each of them guilty. They should have come for you sooner. They would have, if they had known.

"It was weird," Nate spoke again.

Matt looked at him. "What was?"

"How did they know we were there?" Nate asked.

The others looked at him.

"They're too good," Mark stated. He slumped against the wall and slid to the floor.

"But that's the thing," Nate stated. "They've never found us that quickly before."

Sean watched him carefully. "What are you saying?"

"I don't know," Nate admitted. "What if they had eyes on (y/n)?"

Mark looked at him. "What?"

"You mean like a camera?" Sean asked.

"Maybe," Nate pondered.

"You may be on to something," Matt stated. "The way they came in--it was like they were connected to her somehow."

It was quiet for a moment as they all processed that. Mark and Sean exchanged an identical look of concern. They both knew that the Nate and Matt were probably close to being on the right track. With the viruses, who knew what they could do?

----

You sat in another room now. Still slumped against the wall, you couldn't move. You couldn't even open your eyes. But you could hear everything.

"You remember us from before. You know we were a threat."

Darkiplier. His voice was bouncing around. You were sure he was walking in circles around you.

"Did something change? Are we still a threat?"

Something was strapped to your chest. You couldn't tell what. You tried to move. It was like you were asleep, but aware of everything. As hard as you tried, there was nothing you could do. You would consider it an out of body experience, but you couldn't see anything that was happening.
