Chapter Twenty-Four

Start from the beginning

Keyara awkwardly gave Vidyashree a side glance, eyebrows lifted all the way up.

Vidyashree understood her. She tried to laugh it off. "Aubrey, come on, let's go get some food."

Almost immediately, Vidyashree hooked an arm around Aubrey's and dragged her towards the stalls, keeping her engaged in a talk.

Keyara felt eyes on her. She promised Vidyashree that today was the only day she would be eating with her and she wasn't the type to like to break promises. Keeping that in her mind, she pulled a chair for herself.

It took long for the pair to come back and Keyara luckily bought her drawing book. It kept her tied to one place instead of squirming under the eyes of four.

It was Sarah's cough which brought her eyes towards them.

The blonde pushed some potato vegas towards her. Keyara declined it with a shook of her head and went back to her sketch.

It was a new book she was using. She had won a book from Mrs. Minori as Keyara drawings impressed her. In some way, she was happy she got a gift from someone.

"Can I see what you're drawing?" Sarah popped a question Keyara was expecting her to ask. She has been staring at the book for long enough for Keyara to install the idea that she was curious.

This book didn't hold secrets. It was the old book that did. This book, was just a book she used if her mind was blank.

"Oh my God, it's so good." Sarah traced her hand slowly along the pattern. It was nothing but some girl looking out of the window. The girl was wearing a halo of stars and a moon.

"Lost in darkness, yet not completely," Danika read the quote above the page, written in cursive.

Tobias looked impressed. "How did you come up with this kind of ideas?" He motioned to the book Sarah was now flipping through, attracting Matias.

She shrugged. To be honest, she did not know herself.

"Do you want some? I can bring you another tray if you want." Aubrey sat across her, smiling. "I'll ju-"

"Keyara actually don't eat in school."

Keyara breathed out in pure relieve when Vidyashree sat next to her.

"Right?" She looked at Keyara for confirmation and Keyara nodded.

"Aww, you should at least try the chips one time, it's the best," Aubrey suggested.

"I like this one." Sarah suddenly grinned, carrying the opened book with the page of two people stargazing under the moon. A shadow of tree loomed over them while their hands were entwined.

It was an art of silence. It brought many factors out.

It could be happiness, excitement, it also could be love.

It meant they understood each other without speaking. It meant they knew each other without the connection of an eye contact. It meant they didn't have to be in a physical contact to share the same feelings.

"I feel like you have a thousand of words to say but you are pouring it out in your drawings instead."

Funny how it was accurate.

"Oh, Keygan, you haven't seen Keyara's drawings yet. It literally feels illegal to see these."

Keyara was in a state of blur for a moment. The screech of the chair brought her back and when she turned to her right, she saw Keygan frowning at the book Sarah was showing him.

"Is it bad I feel jealous of you, Keyara? I can't even draw a stickman without making a crooked back for it," Matias admitted, peering over the book.

"You're using yourself as the reference, of course you would draw like that."

Matias shoved Tobias with his elbow. He snickered when Tobias fell off of his chair. "What season is this again, Toby? Fall."

Toby? Keyara tilted her head. His name was Toby? She smiled a little. At least Toby wasn't like Toby.

"It's going to be winter soon, dumbass." Tobias sulked, kicking the foot of Matias's chair.

Matias merely poked his tongue out.

Keyara wasn't sure if she needed to worry about herself or just ignore their foolishness.

"Oh, please, you once tried to screenshot the crack on your phone screen. Who's the dumbass here?" Matias shot back.

"Oh, yeah, and who's the dumbass who tried to reheat pizza with the box?"

"Did you forget you used the car key to unlock the door to your house?

"You cracked an egg in the bin instead of the pan!"

"You poured coffee on an upside down glass!"

"You poured bleach into your eyes!

"I thought it was my eye drops!" Matias cried. "And I was high, and you were the one who brought that to me!"

"Yeah, keep on bla-"

"Both of you, shut up."

Danika had the crown in here. Clearly, they knew how to shut up.

Keyara watched them scrambling back to their seats, glaring at each other.

And she had the urge to smile.

So she smiled.
