Back then Beomgyu didn't even know what falling in love meant, he didn't know it either now in the present, but he still nodded his head because he wanted his father to stop crying, but he didn't. He was embracing the kid with unstoppable tears and whispering "I'm sorry" in his ear while being sprawled over the cold floor. And Beomgyu never knew that it was his last time seeing him alive ever again.
San sent him to his room and promised him that he would go to him soon and lay down next to him in bed, but he never did. Beomgyu could never sleep without his father beside him and he had no idea what was happening when he walked downstairs and saw him collapse on the floor. He was holding the key in his hand. Beomgyu just did what he had always seen in movies and called in an emergency. He didn't even know what had happened to his father and he was sitting there, watching him with his childish eyes and playing with the key which he had taken from his hand before the emergency arrived. They said that his father was dead and took the little kid into the orphanage - the unfamiliar place filled with a bunch of strangers. He got sent back home after the age of 19 and now he was 22 years old person, who still hadn't found the purpose of his life. Every day was nothing, but hell to him and he was praying that he would go to his father soon.
He still had that strange key kept in his drawer since his guts always told him that it was important to San. He had scanned the entire house, every little thing in there and every piece of furniture, but he still couldn't manage to find anything he would open with that key, so he did the only thing he could do, he kept it. He wished at least he had a picture of his father, but for some reason, he never used to take photographs, not even with his son. He even tried to look for his ID card or any possible document which would help him to remember how he looked, but he found nothing as if he had never existed in the first place. He had no idea how every document about him managed to disappear like that and the only thing left by him was his grave now and Beomgyu never forgot to visit him at least once a week.
His life had never been perfect. It was full of secrets, mysteries and pain, but it got even worse after he was sent home from the orphanage. He didn't have a job and he had no idea how to get by on his own without any help. That's why he got involved in bad things with bad people. He joined the gang and used to sell narcotic drugs to gain as much cash as possible. Then he would hand all the money to the boss and the bad thing was that Beomgyu always used to be paid a very low amount of money for his work. One day he stole some money earned from the drugs and he got beaten up very well because of that. Those people no longer wanted to do anything with him after that accident and Beomgyu stayed completely penniless again.
He started looking for another job immediately, and he didn't have any clue that reaching this goal would be so life-changing for him. He didn't know he was causing his life to take a drastic turn when he was stepping towards the building where the male with a hoodie on stood, waiting for him patiently. Beomgyu knew he was going to get involved in something bad again, but he didn't care, because his life was a total shit anyways.
"I'll give you an address", the man told him when Beomgyu stood beside him with his hands tucked in his pockets and leaned against the outer wall of the building, "And your mission is to save someone. You'll be rewarded so well for this that you will never have to work for the rest of your life again"
Beomgyu could feel his heart quickening from excitement at his words, even though they seemed too unbelievable to him. A throng of dreadful sensations was shot into his body, but it wasn't like he had any other choice anyways except to believe that man's sincerity. At least saving someone wasn't an easy task and sure he would definitely deserve to be rewarded properly for that.
He nodded his head.
"He is trapped in one building and several guards are standing outside and inside, but you don't have to worry about that, because I have the plan of that structure and I know the location of every single guard. Defeating them will be like a walk in the park. Do you know how to shoot?", he looked at the puzzled boy beside him, who flickered his eyes to him at once and nodded his head. He had spent several years in a gang and sure he knew how to shoot and had some fighting skills too, but his guts were telling him now that something was off about that mission. If saving that someone was so easy, then why wouldn't that man do it himself or why wouldn't he hire someone professional instead of him, a total stranger?
"That's excellent", the man praised, "Now we need to go to my place, so I'll be able to show you the plan of the building and talk to you about more details"
Chills of fear crossed Beomgyu's body at his announcement, because what if that man's true intentions were just to rape him and then murder him? He just came out of nowhere, like an angel who was offering him a big amount of money for a single task, it wasn't easy for the younger boy to have full trust in him yet.
"Don't be scared", the man said when he noticed a hint of nervousness dancing on the younger's face, "It's a matter of a few hours. You don't also have to be afraid of getting killed on the mission, because you'll know every single detail about that structure and then the reward is yours"
"If you think that it's so easy, then why won't you do it instead of me?"
The man smirked wickedly at his question, "Because you're the one who needs money and not me"
His answer was authentic, but something devilish was hidden behind it and Beomgyu could already smell trouble coming his way.
"Okay", the mysterious man said after he noticed hesitation on Beomgyu's face and let out a heavy, fake groan, "If you don't want it, then I'll find someone else"
And he turned around instantly, walking away from the black-haired male, but he wasn't surprised at all when Beomgyu called him after a minute and ran to him urgently, causing a secret tremor of devilish amusement to flash across his face.
"Okay, I'll do it", Beomgyu said even though he wasn't sure in his words, a faint trace of fear was still noticeable in his slightly shaky voice, "But who? Who am I doing it for?"
He noticed a quizzical look laced in the older's satisfied eyes and how his lips curled up into a wicked smirk as he moved his lips in a calm manner to utter confidently, "His name is Choi Yeonjun"
And Beomgyu couldn't explain why a weird feeling of Déjà vu surged through him at hearing that unknown name.
