It was New Year's Eve. Jack and Troy were playing basketball as Olivia came into the hall. „Hey Liv" Troy said with a smile, „ Here catch". Olivia catchend the ball without a problem. All her muscles were sore because they've been skiing the past few days - without a pause...well, except for when they played basketball. „I still can't get over the fact that you're in the cheerleading team and not in the basketball team", Jack said and shook his head in disbelief. „Learned all my skills from you two", Olivia said with a smile. Deep in her, she always wanted to actually join the basketball team, but her mom was always so amazed by her cheerleading skills. Plus, she has been cheerleading since she was 5 years old...she couldn't just quit...right? She pushed the thoughts out of her mind and threw the ball and scored a point. They started to play around for a while till they noticed Troys mother Lucille in the door. They all stopped playing and looked at her with innocent smiles. „These smiles won't help you either!". She laughed. „Did we really fly all this way to play more basketball?" she asked us all. They looked at each other for a second and all answered at once „Yeah...". „Well, we skied a lot, too." Olivia added hopefully. „It's the last night of vacation. The party, remember?" She turned around to get all the attention to her dress. „Beautiful dress!" Olivia said immediately still with a little hope. Lucille looked at Troys cousin and shook her head with a light smile. „Thank you. And now, I'm gonna put you in one, darling". Jack had to give in and left to get ready for the party. Troy and Olivia? They had to go the the kids- I'm sorry - young adults party. They went to their rooms to get ready.
Olivia showered and dressed up. Lucille had organized something for her to wear. Her mum had to leave for an important business emergency three days ago but Troy and Olivia could convince her to let Olivia stay there till the end of vacation. Her mother always worked a lot so she is barely at home. Her dad lives in Hawaii with a 20 year old blond girl who made him leave Olivias mom. Olivia never liked him anyways. After she got dressed she looked in the mirror.

On the way to the party she pumped into Troy. They walked the rest of the way togeather and talked about everything and nothing. As they entered they heard music and saw everyone doing their own thing. Olivia looked around and saw karaoke. The couple which just sang has finished and now the guy was searching for a new couple. „Alright! How about that for a couple of snowboarders" Everybody cheered. „Yeah! Who's gonna rock the house next?" he asked the crowd. Troy and Olivia looked around and saw a spotlight searching in the crowd for the next singer. Troy yawned and right when he wanted to go somewhere else the spotlight landed on him. Olivia couldn't help but immediately started laughing. Troy tried to get out of the situation and asked other guys to go. „I can't sing - sorry - no you should go". Olivia pushed him to the stage with an grin. He shot her an angry glance. The other spotlight landed on a girl who also looked like she didn't want to do this. So nobody expected what happened next.
The crowd was cheering. Olivia was shocked. She didn't know that Troy could sing that good. As they stopped singing, Troy told the girl his name. Looked like he started to have a little crush. Olivia smirked. She wanted to go on her way over to him when she suddenly got a call from Jack.

Jack: Hey Olivia
Olivia: Hey Jack. What's up? Is the party that boring?
Jack laughed awkwardly at Olivia joke. Something was up.
Jack: Olivia. I really need to talk to you. I'm on my way over. I'm waiting outside the room.
He hang up and Olivia looked around confused. She saw Troy looking for her in the crowd and she quickly made her way out of the room. Then she saw Jack. He smiled at her but something was bothering him. „You okay?" she asked him. „Yeah...yeah yeah... Olivia, it's...your mother called."„Is she okay?" Olivia asked worried. „Yeah! She's perfectly fine!!! It's just...she got an offer from her company to travel in Africa for a year. She's supposed to write articles about it and all that stuff...and she couldn't say no to such a huge opportunity..." Jack trailed off. Olivia looked at him in shock. Well, of course it was a great offer but what about her?! „...and you can't really come with her...because...you know school and everything."„And what does she suggest?" Olivia got mad. This time it was too much! „Well at first she wanted you to go to your father-" „There's no way I go to that dumbass for a year!"„I told her the exact same thing!" Now she got quiet. Where would she go then? „I...Well I suggested that you could stay with us-with Troy- for the year. You two like to spend time together and Lucille and I love when you are around and -" he stopped as Olivia hugged him. He didn't expected that. As he looked in her face there was a big smile. „That would be soooo cool! Thank you Jack! Really!" Jack had to go back to the party because it was almost 12. Olivia also hurried up to get back to Troy. He was outside on the balcony. „Well, just so you know, singing with you was the most fun I had on this entire vacation. So where do you live?" Troy said looking while at his phone. „Well I hope you had some fun with me, too!" Olivia said smirking. Troy looked up and turned around to see where the other girl went. Then he looked at Olivia and laughed. „Of course. Happy New Year" he shouted over the crowd. „Happy new year!" Olivia was in a great mood. Her mom always worked so she was happy to once be somewhere where she could really do something with someone. She couldn't wait for Troy to hear the news.
