He got to the bar in forty-three minutes and the waiters and waitress quickly approached him. They all compete to serve the boss his order whenever he comes around because there was always a generous tip when he is leaving.
"I will be using the usual room." He said to a skinny guy who nodded with a smile and the others left reluctantly.
And he went to his usual position - the VVIP section in the club. He settled down and ordered a bottle of malt while he wait for his friend. And in less than five minutes, he arrived.
They shake hands before Bayo settled opposite him on the couch. He eyes the malt in his hand.
"Malt?" His brow quirked in question.
"That's what the mood calls for." He replied. "And thanks for honouring my call."
"C'mon, what are friends for? If I am not here, who is going to listen to your sorry ass." They chuckle. "It's really not a biggie." He shakes his head in appreciation.
Bayo also ordered a bottle of his usual wine. Then he turned to the quiet Demilade.
"So Demmy, what's wrong? You were looking good... You know." He gestured with his eyes and one hand. "After you and Lola yesterday." He had a snide smile on his face. Demilade can't help but chuckles. "Although you still owe me a conversation on that part but how is Lola?"
"She is fine. She went home. She can't seem to do without them." He said with a small smile. He realized that they were similar in that aspect regarding family. His work only second that.
"Okay. So are you okay?" He asked with concern.
"I'm not. He is back." His face flared with anger. He clenched the bottle in his hand.
Bayo watched his every movement. He like no other knows who he was referring to. He knew no one makes Demilade get so angry. No one angers him more than the man who birthed him. His name alone makes him so angry.
"Why now? Why is he back? When did he even come back? Today?" Bayo asked. He was a bit angry himself. He knows how much pain the man has cost his best friend and the woman who had been like his second mother. He understands his feelings.
He wasn't in the place to get angry but because of his relationship with Demilade and how much he understands him, he couldn't help but be mad at the so-called father.
He had done a perfect job to stay away from their lives for a long time, so what could he possibly want with them again?
"I don't know and I don't want to know." He replied. "I also don't know when he approached them but grandma suggested the vacation for this. So I guess it is before then. There were hoping it will kind of soothes me. But that can't happen when it comes to that man. Nothing can soothe the pain that he cost my mother. Not even some holiday in the Caribbean."
"But why now? He never wanted to see you. So why come back now?"
"Who knows? Maybe for money. Forgiveness. I don't care. I just want him not to come back into our lives. I don't need him near my family. He is not my father and will never be."
Bayo can't help but think about it. He was quiet for a while in his own thought. He kept pondering why the man had to come back after all these years. Because the same man sends them away from his life without a backwards glance or a care in the world. He barely spends any money on his son despite he had more than enough. He let them suffer. He abandoned them and worst of all, he never acknowledge their existence. So what could he possibly want again? He couldn't help but ask himself.
As much as he hate him for what he cause his best friend and his family, he couldn't help the feeling that he need to calm the storm in his friend's heart. Demilade had been living with hatred and pain for the man for a long period of time. It was doing him no good. Just a discussion with his mother about the man was making him so angry as this.
He thought maybe it would be the best time he let go of all those anger and hatred. He was thinking Demilade should at least listen to what the man had to say. Maybe it will help him move on and let go of all those anger and hatred.
So after a while, he said calmly.
"Demilade... I'm thinking... maybe you should hear your mom and grandma out. Just listen to them. I think it is time you hear what he had to say. There must be a reason why he is back." Bayo suggested.
Demilade peered at him and back at the bottle in his hand.
"Don't tell me you want me to give that man a minute of my precious time? You want me to listen to him?" He huffed. Bayo sighed before nodding gently.
"There has got to be a reason why he is back. You don't need him. You never did. You have been living fine without him. Look what you have become today without his single money in your life. You are who you are without him. So seeing him won't take much from you."
"It will. I don't think I can ever sit in the same room with that man for a minute. He never cares what I want. He never cares about how my mom feels. Why should I care why he is back now?"
"You know that I understand how you feel about your mom. No woman deserves to be treated that way. But I am your best friend Demmy and I will never say or do anything that will hurt you. I don't know why he is back and I know he does not deserve your time or anything from you at all for all that matters but... I think you should hear your grandmother out. Know why he is back and then decide what next. You hate him but the truth still remains that the same blood flows in your veins. "
"Well, that is it. The blood. Nothing else connects us together. Blood only connects us which we don't have a choice over but loyalty makes us family. And that is why you are family to me more than he ever will." He said with finality.
"Demmy."
"Let's end this conversation." He said with finality.
"But..."
He cut him off. "You know me more than anyone does Adebayo." And he does. So he heaved a sigh and nodded. It will have to be a topic of another day.
"Alright." He agreed to let the matter die.
I have made up for the late update. So it's a double update!
What do you have to say about Demilade being so stubborn-headed about meeting his father? Leave your thoughts, I will love to hear them.
And don't worry, we will get to know the main story soon.
Please don't forget to vote and you can also recommend it to a friend.
See you next time. 😘 😘 😘
