As she heaved a disgruntled sigh, I pushed the door back open and re- entered the self proclaimed battlefield with a new found sense of calm.

Like so many other times, I was aware of the fact that it was in no way a positive kind of calm, it was that kind of calm, where any kind of wrong movement could set me off if I wasn't careful to keep my temper in check.

I was like a caged animal that had finally gotten free, just to get locked in a room full of, mostly, innocent people, just waiting for one eyebrow to lift distastefully or a snide comment. Waiting for the right moment to strike.

But there wasn't. Any kind of derogatory reaction I mean. They just. Smiled. They smiled at me and the blond guy- Niall, I had learned, offered his seat on one the kitchen chairs to me, which I declined with a cautious half smile and a shake of my head.

"Suit yourself," he shrugged it off and sat back down, slowly chewing on his gum.

It was unfair really. Here I was, trying to be mad that they had invaded my home and they just. They were so damn polite. It was ticking me off that they just seemed to understand or to at least show enough respect as not to be nosy.

Immediately I felt guilty and under any other cicumstances I would have ignored it and just waited it out. But. For some unexplicable reason I just couldn't do that now, so I let out an agitated puff of breath and muttered an apology.

In the fraction of a second my mothers head snapped around and my sister snorted, which earned a pointed glare from me.

"I'm sorry, what?" Simon asked me, obviously he hadn't heard me. Still, I glared at him for having to repeat myself.

"Damn, are you deaf or something? I said I'm-" Deep breaths Emma, deep breaths, "I said I'm sorry that your bus broke down and that I snapped like that. It was uncalled for."

"Well, what do you say, you do have manners, and I thought you were beyond help!", My sister joked and poked me in the side with her elbow. Annoyed I pushed her away "Get off! Don't get used to it! That was the first and last time you've heard me apologize." I warned before turning back to the guys on the couch.

"As I already said, I'm very sorry that your bus broke down but you're still not getting my room. I'm sure Mother won't mind sharing her room with Simon, so that you can sleep in the guest room." I smiled mockingly at my mother and made to leave but I was, once again, stopped.

Seemed like mother was feeling brave now that I had shown that I did have some kind of conscience and was under the impression that she could be a person of authority to me now.

"You will not talk to me like that Emma! Who do-" One glare was enough to cut her off. Simon just looked startled at the harsh sound of my voice, while Mick Jagger 2.0 actually cringed.

Loredana knew what was coming, but she made no attempt at stopping my outburst this time. She wouldn't have stood a chance anyways.
