Jennie is an idiot.
Jisoo loves her, painfully. But she's an idiot.
Jennie left weeks ago. Didn't break up with Jisoo, in fact - it can't even be called a temporary break up considering Jennie sends texts to Jisoo every day (Nothing spectacular just How's your day? - and more recently she's played around with actual conversation ). But for some reason Jennie moved out because of "space ."
And Jisoo loves that idiot so much that she actually had to dig up why Jennie needed space. So, Jisoo talked to her father.
She's never been rebellious by any means. In fact, the biggest argument she's ever had with her father - up to a few days ago at least - was when she thought about dying her hair brown. She didn't because he said it would be silly, and she realized that there was no point anyways.
But then she found out. Not just parts, but everything - her father has always been relatively up front. And Jennie is still a complete idiot for not telling her, but: ugh.
She's next to Jennie at the wedding table. Everyone is dancing, but they've just been sitting. It's the third time since Valentine's day that Jisoo's actually seen her. The first being Jennie swinging by quickly to pick up some clothes - it was awkward. The second was Jennie coming to her practice. They had a very quiet, very uncomfortable lunch together that was saved by the presence of Seulgi and Joohyun.
Jennie's fidgeting a lot, like she wants to say something but won't.
"Idiot," Jisoo mutters.
Jennie props herself up and stops fiddling with her hands for the first time since Chaeyoung and Lisa said their vows. She was too busy crying then.
"Did you just call me an idiot?"
Jisoo rolls her eyes and stands. "Can we go somewhere private?" She looks around and sees that everyone is busy having a good time - unlike them.
Jennie nods, almost like it was her idea. Idiot. God why does Jisoo love her this much. Jisoo walks and Jennie follows her until they're in the hallway by the back door where no one else can see them in plain sight.
"You could have just told me, you know?" Jisoo says straight away. "You can't just -" she groans, "assume you know what I'm going to do, and what's good to talk about."
"That's not--"
"No it is," Jisoo says. "That isn't how relationships work. Or, at least I don't think so." Jisoo shakes her head. "I don't know, okay. But I--"
"I'm sorry," Jennie blurts out.
"What?"
Jennie looks down and kicks the ground with her heel. "I thought that maybe if I didn't mention it everything would blow over, and I would be okay, and I wouldn't have to--" Jennie stops and her eyes go wide. "How much do you know exactly?"
"You asked my father to marry me, he said no - something like that, right?" Jisoo says it all as plainly as possible, and she feels a little satisfaction in the way Jennie shrinks.
"I just don't...I don't want you to realize that it doesn't work for you later. Or realize that you actually did want to be in charge of that hospital thing, or," she sighs. "I don't know."
"Neither of us know?" Jisoo says, smiling. She can't really help it around Jennie. "Getting married would be stupid then, probably."
Jennie swallows in and blushes. She looks down at the ground. "Yeah. Probably."
Jisoo twirls a strand of hair and looks down to the side, then to Jennie's pink shoes. There is a small scuff on the very end, but you can only see it if you look closely.
"How stupid are you?" Jisoo asks.
"Hey! What kind of question--" Jennie stops when Jisoo digs into her clutch, and pulls out a ring. Jisoo didn't bother with the box because it wouldn't really fit with her phone and pager - but now she thinks she would have liked it for the dramatic effect, or whatever. "Jisoo...?"
"I--" Jisoo chews the inside of her cheek before forcing herself to look up. "I talked to your mom, and she said it was okay as long as," Jisoo falters, "something about seven grandchildren. Daddy didn't like it, but he'll come around. And Mom just wanted to make sure I wanted to do this, so - how stupid are you?"
"Jisoo..."
"I don't think either of us know what we're really doing. But I don't want you to not be there one day, and I don't really like sleeping alone anymore, and-" and why isn't Jisoo better with this stuff. It would have been easier if Jennie proposed. Oh yeah, she didn't actually get to that part. Right. "So, even if it's stupid, I - will you be stupid with me, and you know?" She looks at the ring.
"Know what?" Jennie edges closer, swaying her body. "If you're gonna ask a girl a question you gotta do it right, Kim." Her voice is shakey, and her eyes are shining; but her smile. A real smile. Jisoo's skin tingles, her heart beats fast, her hands begin to quiver.
"You're one to talk," Jisoo mutters before clearing her throat. "Will you marry me?"
Jennie blinks several times, the wet rims of her eyes percolating more and more. "Yes," she says, then laughs, "I mean, you didn't get down on what knee but--"
Jisoo rolls her eyes, steps in and kisses her. "I'm wearing a dress," she says against Jennie's mouth, but doesn't pull away.
Jisoo never imagined it would feel this good to kiss her again, to taste the chalky, cherry coating she puts over her lipstick, or feel Jennie's tongue, or her hands.
Jennie's hands that brush over her breast and down to her waist. Jisoo forgets that they're in a hallway at a wedding.
"You know, we're going to have to hide this for tonight. Chaeyoung might not care, but Lisa will kill me if I upstage."
"Tomorrow?" Jisoo says, muffled between them.
"After the honeymoon."
"Smart." Jisoo pulls away only a fraction. "Are we ever going to go back in because someone's definitely noticed that we're gone by now."
"Mean," Jennie says, teasing her tongue out for a second before pulling away. "I guess you're right - besides, we haven't danced yet." She takes Jisoo's hand and pulls her back inside.
They dance.
The song is kind of fast and Jennie jumps around a lot. Everyone does. Chaeyoung and Lisa are holding hands and smiling and for a second Chaeyoung looks over to Jisoo. Lisa looks as well. They nod before looking back at each other and murmuring something; Jisoo can't quite tell what it is, but she knows it's about them.
"What are you looking at?" Jennie asks. She pouts and moves in closer.
Jisoo meets her gaze and feels this internal pull that makes her press closer to Jennie. "They'll be happy," Jisoo states.
"Mmhmm." Jennie wraps her arms around the nape of Jisoo's neck. "What about us?" she asks.
Jisoo kisses Jennie. "We have the world's greatest idol and the doctor who's able to put up with her on a daily basis." The left corner of Jennie's mouth tugs up. "I think we'll manage."
