Chapter Six

Bursting into the gym, you cannot contain your excitement. You look around. Yachi and Kiyoko were setting up the gym with the help of some of the team members who had already changed.

On one bench was Takeda-Sensei and Coach Ukai. You all but run up to them, not letting your nervousness take over first. Standing in front of them, you smile and wave.

"Ah, you must be Y/N Tsukishima. Your brother has said a lot about you" said Takeda-Sensei. You giggle. Though you knew Akiteru would never stop talking about you, Kei would never admit he even would acknowledge your existence half the time.

You nod and look to Kei, making sure he was ready to verbally translate what you were "saying" to the teacher and coach before you. Go ahead he signs and you smile before beginning.

It's nice to meet you both. I was wondering if there is a chance I can become a team manager. I'm new to the school and feel most comfortable around my brother, and I know a little about volleyball myself, even if the terminology isn't exactly there.

You pause after every sentence to make sure your brother doesn't get overwhelmed. Your brother says everything for you, not missing one detail and the adults smile.

"We can always use an extra set of hands. The court is all set up, but the girls will fill you in. Once the boys are all here, We can let you formally introduce yourself to them, and then the girls can explain your responsibilities, okay? You nod and thank them.

Take this and follow the girls. They are going to show you what to do your brother says, handing you a small bag. You take it confused and follow the girls. They tell you to change and they help you pull up your hair.

When you return, your wearing a plain white shirt, a jacket similar to the girls and your brother, a matching pair of black sweatpants, your sneakers, and your hair is pulled back in a ponytail. They hand you a pen and notebook and grab your phone to take a picture. "Our new manager! Great to have you on the team, Y/N!" the girls say in unison.

You walk back out of the girls changing room, following Kiyoko and Yachi as they go to stand next to Coach Ukai. Seeing you, two of your pursuers from yesterday start to run towards you, only to immediately be caught be the captain and Sugawara.

"Starting today, Y/N is going to be another manager for you guys. She is mute, but I can imagine she will do her best to give you all feedback" Ukai says.

"Hai!" yells the team as the start to swarm you.

Before you get to close, you see Kei adjust his glasses and slowly walk after them. The team starts to ask you a millions questions, especially Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Hinata. Kei pushed past them all, standing next to you.

"Can you dumbasses not be so harsh on a girl who doesn't talk? Besides, I think it's time we start practicing for the training camp next week, right Daichi?"

The captain nods and the crowd groans. The girls tell you about how you need to pay attention to the details of their game: things that are working well, making sure their spirits soar high, and provide any assistance, help, or advice when you can.

As the boys go to take a run, the three of you get to sit on the bench and hang out. You wonder what you should do when Kiyoko taps your shoulder.

"Your brother is normally a very salty person. Seeing him so kimd when your around is like he was possessed. Is he always like this at home?" You giggle and open the notebook you were given to a blank page.

Kei doesn't like to admit it, but he definitely is a softie at heart you write with a grin. The girls look at you excitedly.

"Spill the tea, Sis!" they cry, scooting closer to you. Was this what friendship with girls was like? You weren't sure, but you absolutely loved it.
