——————————————————————————

Tomorrow was the day I've been waiting for for what felt like years now. I would finally be going to a Shawn Mendes concert, as a birthday present. My mom had given me the tickets the day before today, as a early present. It meant the world, with the small money struggle we'd been going though now. Yes, the tickets might have been for back row, row 6, but that didn't matter to me, I appreciated them more than words and expressions could express.

"Hey, Les, wanna go pick out your outfit?" my mom asked me from the kitchen. "Sure," I replied, running off to my room. Now, I didn't have much but I would try my best. This was the night of my dreams. Little did I know, my mom had one more surprise in store for me.

Looking through my closet, I was almost done picking out my outfit. My favorite plain black t-shirt with a little sunflower sewed in the middle with some jeans I've had for the longest time, luckily they still fit me, right now wasn't the time we could be affording brand-new clothes.

All of a sudden, I hear a knock at the door? Who could it be? Not like we had many visitors anyways. Walking into the 'living room' I put my hand on the door. Why did I feel nervous?

Opening the door, my best friend screams "SURPRISEEEE ANNALESSIA!!!"

"Omg, Paisley what are you doing here?" I gave her the biggest hug ever.

"Well someone," gesturing over to my mom. "Someone may have told my mom that you were going to a concert tomorrow, so I'm here to help with whatever you need."

"Oh wow sure, thanks so much. Your the best, here come in. Water?"

"I'm good thanks."

She knew we were having some issues. Paisley and her mom were two of the few we could trust with anything, as they were helping us out here and there. We always payed them back.

"Well, since your here, I'll use you. I tried picking out an outfit, but we both know how that is."

"Ok, let's go see what you have."

About to walk into my room, I'm so grateful I had tidied it up a bit. Paisley wouldn't judge, I knew that, but I still tried my best for her. To be the best friend she deserves.

"I love it, honestly, it's perfect for a concert" she said seeing the t-shirt and jeans on my bed. 'Phew," I thought to myself, I didn't want to pick another outfit, and plus it's kinda like I didn't have much else. Knowing she told me the truth I made her promise she would tell me no matter what, she wasn't lying. Great, this was a better start than imagined.

We talked for a while, about random topics and the concert of course. Lately, I have noticed something and wanted to talk about it, but never found a time, but now was perfect.

"Hey Pais, I wanted to talk about something, if that's ok?"

"Of course, shoot".

"I don't know how my moms doing lately. She says she's fine every time I ask her, but something's off. Maybe your mom knows something, I'm not accusing you, but maybe she told you something?"

"No she hasn't, but maybe I can ask for you? Or you can talk to her also if you'd like. You know she does enjoy talking to you."

"Maybe you could with me? I don't want to alone."

"Sounds like a plan."

Acting normal as to not raise suspicion, Paisley and I headed back downstairs to my living room to play some games. Her mom would be here soon to pick her up, so we didn't have a lot of time.

Time flew by, and before we knew it Paisley's mom was knocking on our door to take her home. Well, our moms were great friends too considering their daughters were best friends so that bought us some time.

Suddenly, we saw her walking back out towards us, which meant we were out of time.

"Hey Anna, maybe you wanna come spend the night with us?"

"Um sure? Sorry, I didn't know this was happening, I don't want to be a burden."

"You're never don't worry! Go pack a bag! Jamie, sorry your mom, wants you to have a good night-before-a-concert".

Heading yet again to my room, many thoughts ran through my head. What happened that I was going to Paisley's for the night? That never happened without being planned before hand. This only got me thinking more questions if my mom was ok or not on the inside. Maybe this was my sign to talk to her mom. Maybe, just maybe, she would give me some answers.

---

Finally walking into my best friend's house, now was when I had to make my move.

"Um, Mrs. Winston, maybe we could talk? I'm worried about my mom..." I began to trail off. Luckily, she picked up and took over.

"Of course, and really, you can call me Melissa. Paisley," she began, knowing that was like the go to another room so I can talk.

"It's ok, I actually asked her to be with me when I talked to you."

"Sure, lets go to the couch, or wherever you'd like."

Letting out a small chuckle, "The couch is fine, it's really comfy anyways".

Talking for a little, I let out my main concerns, "she isn't acting normal, I mean, I know we have money problems. But even with so, she doesn't usually act like she is. I don't know, it seems like she's off or something. Something bothering her that I don't know, and that she doesn't want to show clearly, probably not to worry me. I act like I don't see it and believe the 'everything's fines' but it's there-" and before I could begin crying, which I really didn't want to, Melissa began to talk.

"I have to say, I kinda picked that up today also. I didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but I also didn't want to press, she knows she can tell me anything, no matter what. Maybe she's just not ready to talk to anyone about whatever going on."

"Thank you, it means a lot. And you taking me tonight also."

---

Getting ready for bed, I went into Paisley's bathroom and brushed my teeth, changed into my pj's. Walking out, she's already changed too and we climb into bed. Pulling the covers over us, I began to feel sleep taking over me. Soon enough, I let it, I wanted to be well rested for what would be the best day of my life, and let all my worries fade away. Well, it might've been around 5 minutes before I was totally asleep. Luckily I fell asleep fast, Paisley sometimes made sure I was asleep and good before she went to sleep herself, only she didn't know I knew, I just appreciated she thought of me, even when she was tired herself.

(sorry this chapter's shit, i promise future ones will be longer also)
