83: Pregnancy Test Blue

Start from the beginning

"What are you doing up this late?" You ask quietly.

Inosuke shrugs, "Can't sleep."

"Me neither," You hum, "Why can't you sleep?"

"... What happens when... when you die?" Inosuke furrows his eyebrows together, "Is it really just nothing?"

Oh holy shit.

"Everyone believes in different things, different religions offer different things," You said.

"Reincarnation... do you believe in reincarnation?" He asks quietly.

"At first, I didn't believe in it because of the religion I was brought up in, but recently..."

You think back to chapter 205 of Demon Slayer. At first, you didn't believe in reincarnation. But now that you were here in Demon Slayer, and knowing that whatever happened in the manga was happening now (minus everything that you fucked up), you knew that reincarnation was a guarantee for these lovely people.

"The belief in reincarnation has been my comfort whenever my life is in danger," You lean back on your right hand, "I know you guys will-"

"-Do you die, (Y/n)?" Inosuke interrupts, "You said you're clairvoyant or whatever. Do you die in the future?"

Ummmm????

"Inosuke," You lean forward to look at him, "What's this about?"

Inosuke turns his head away, "You were kidnapped."

Oh.

"You were gone for 30 days and you came back injured," Inosuke huffs, "Then you get impaled through the chest!"

"It was just through my left collarbone-"

"-That doesn't make it better!" Inosuke snaps his head to look at you with a pained expression, "Wh-And you almost fell to your death if it wasn't for Upper Moon-Akaza! He suddenly has an obsession with you now! A-And now you have to leave in half a year or else you'll die because of Sekido's Blood Demon Art!"

You hissed quietly and looked away. Well, when Inosuke said it, it sounded worse than you let yourself believe. At least he got your name and Sekido's name right.

"You ju-people die all the time! But you-you can't just-it's different when it's you! So just be careful!" Inosuke slams his boar's hide to the side on the engawa, "I'm tired of—constantly being afraid for your safety! It's so damn annoying and it makes my head hurt!"

"Inosuke, I-I'm sorry. I-"

"-What if you get killed one day? What if you don't go back home on time and your body gets split in two?! What am I supposed to do then?!" Inosuke scowls in your direction, but his eyes never met yours, "Will you die painfully? Are you going to suffer? Will your death really be for nothing if nothing happens after death?"

You sigh through your nose and grab Inosuke's left hand with your right: "I don't know what the future holds for me. In all honesty, Inosuke, I don't... get scared thinking about dying."

"How can you say that?" Inosuke whispers, "Value your life. You can't die in any lame way."

You wonder when the movie The Iron Giant will make an appearance. Maybe 1999, you could be wrong about that.

"It's bad to kill, but it's not bad to die," You smiled in amusement, "Souls never die."

Inosuke doesn't say anything.

Souls never die...

You and Inosuke stay like that for a while. Your thumb was rubbing against his hand in hopes to comfort him.

You shiver slightly when a sudden, soft breeze picks up. It was nice, though, since you're a Desert Rat.

"Can you sing me a song?" Inosuke asks suddenly.

"No." Is what you wanted to say.

"Sure, why not?" Is what you actually said, "What are you in the mood for?"

"Something quiet," He shrugs.

You nod, trying to rack your brain for a song you two might know. You could sing Gurenge, but the ladd wanted something quiet.

You take a deep breath and sing a song you memorized recently.

"Iki wo hisomete,"

"Hiza wo marumete."

"Shimekitta mado no,"

"Soto, naki dashita sora."

"Kasureta koe de,"

"Kimi no namae wo."

"Kurikaesu no wa mou,"

"Owari ni shiyou."

In The Rain was a pretty song, but for the longest time, you didn't even know what they were saying. After learning Japanese, though, you went back to a lot of your Japanese songs to learn them properly this time.

"Kasa wo hirogete,"

"Fumidasu sekai."

"Hidoku nigotta,"

"Karappo no sekai."

"Itsuka kita michi,"

"Koboreru ame ga."

"Kimi no iro dake,"

"Keshite shimau mae ni."

"Zutto,"

"Kimi no koto."

"Sagashite,"

"Shimau."

"Ima ni mo."

"Ochite kisou na sora wo."

"Miagete wa mata hitori de."

"Kumoma ni nozoku ao wo matteta no."

"Mune no oku no zutto oku wo."

"Tsukisasu you ni tsumetai."

"Amaoto dake,"

"Hibiku yo."

"Nee douka."

"Ameagare."

Inosuke stares at the grass ahead of him, listening intently to the sound of your voice more than what you were actually singing.

He missed 4 months ago when he didn't know you.

Inosuke finally looks at you, pleased that your eyes were closed as you sang.

You're pretty, Inosuke wanted to say.

But it counted as flirting, right? And Inosuke told himself not to get in Tanjiro's way of pursuing you. Though Inosuke's sure there were other people who wanted to court you, but Tanjiro likes you, so Inosuke can't like you.

You open your eyes and see Inosuke staring at you. You smile in embarrassment but continue to sing.

You're absolutely beautiful, Inosuke wanted to say.
