Same looks, but different.

Different character, but somewhat the same.

Curse them.

A knock came at his door.

"Come in," Keefe said with a sigh, totally not expecting Sophie to step in.

"Foster!" He jumped up. "What are you doing here?"

Sophie shrugged, staring at her feet. "I don't think it's a good idea to be alone now," she mumbled, eyes rimmed red. "I might do something stupid."

"I'm here if you need to talk," Keefe gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Thank you," she whispered, leaning into his hand.

3rd

Right at that moment, sparks flew.

The pair didn't know it yet, but they were already trusted each other way more than they ever trusted everyone else.

They liked each other.

Maybe even loved.

Sophie

2 months later...

Kenric's funeral was hard.

Especially since Sophie was put in charge of looking after Cecile while Oralie grieved.

She kept asking where her dad was, and all Sophie could tell her was that he would be gone for a long time.

Luckily, Keefe was there to keep her company.

Cheer her up when she felt lile crying.

Lend her a shoulder when she actually did cry.

Help her get through the day till slowly, Kenric's death just felt like a HORRIBLE nightmare.

Then came the mission. The mission that changed everything.

"Are you sure this is safe?" Biana whispered.

"Best case scenario, we succeed, go back to headquarters alive and whole AND with the chip," Tam whispered back. He could hardly be seen in the shadows.

"What's the worst case scenario?" Keefe had to ask.

"Death," everyone else simultaneously said.

"Well aren't you all optimistic," Keefe whistled.

"Shut up," Sophie hissed. And they all did.

She had second thoughts of this mission. On one hand, the chip was probably a really important part of defeating the Neverseen.

On the other hand, it was why Kenric risked everything.

She was scared. More than she'd like to admit.

The mission was dangerous.

Sneaking into the Neverseen's archive again. That part was easy.

The dangerous part, was that they had to crack open a safe to get the chip.

The worst part? The Black Swan wouldn't let Sophie go alone.

So they sent her with a small division of the Cygnets.

Herself obviously, Tam and Biana for their stealth and fighting skills, Dex to crack open the safe, and Keefe 'cause... Well, he'd insisted.

"Sophie, haven't you been here before?" Dex said under his breath.
