ennennes rated a book ☆☆☆☆☆

"Okay, so here's the deal," Nia started after introducing themselves. "We're from the 21st century Canada and we know pretty much everything, so you don't need to explain shit. Let's go to the kingdom so I can get a sword."

"Um, the kingdom is the other way." Peter tried to hide his annoyance.

"I knew that," Nia said promptly, turning around and dragging Enne with her.

DESCRIPTION

Best friends Nia and Enne share a secret. Unbeknownst to those around them, Nia possesses the mysterious ability to write out the events within pre-existing stories. So when she stumbles into post-White-Witch Narnia from the year 2021, it only makes sense to take on the prophecy and annoy an ill-mannered king, who believes she is anything but the hero everyone else claims her to be. Oh, and Enne the Egg gets dragged along. What could possibly go wrong?

THE CHARACTERS

Nia

"...Nia laughed and threw a stick she was playing with that she found on the ground, which then missed and hit Peter on the head."

Chapter 1-2: Nia is that classmate who'd get you in trouble but you couldn't be mad about it because it was hilarious. She's also the backbone of the entire novel, and is therefore my favourite. Her antics and unfiltered comments make her not only a relatable protagonist, but gives the story a sense of authenticity that is rare to find in most YA novels, and I think the author does a nice job of balancing her overwhelming charisma with the rest of the cast. I can't say more than that for now, and moving forward, it'd be great to get glimpses of different sides to her character.

Enne

"The girls stopped, watching the Pevensies walk towards the lion with ease.

'Isn't he, like, Jesus or something?'"

This girl has literally no boundaries and will put up with anything. The Mom Friend. Could be really nice but also would try (key word here is "try") to fight you if you insult Nia. Enne gets exasperated at everything but secretly enjoys watching the events unfold around her, so readers are able to put themselves in her shoes as the observers. Like with Nia, I think I'd want to see more depth and motivations for her story. Also, the warrior powers are 10/10.
