Prologue

"Y/n" Spencer called out. While the people that knew her grew smiles on their faces Spencer's heart dropped to the bottom of his stomach and his eye's widened

Once you entered the room Penelope got up and ran over to you. Engulfing you in a hug. "Hey Penny" you spoke as you wrapped your arms around her

"I missed you" she squeezed you tightly once more before letting go

"I missed you too" your eyes traveled towards the one person you were scared of finding. Spencer. "All of you"

"I didn't even know that you still worked with the bureau" JJ stood up from her seat and ran over to hug you

You held her and then pulled away to explain "For a while I didn't, but I joined the FBI's New York field office for a while before I got a call from Emily. Asking me to come back and I felt like I couldn't miss the opportunity"

"Well I am glad you are back" Rossi walked over, he gave you a hug and then pulled away to kiss your cheek.

"Hey pasta man" you giggled

"I still hate that name"

"I know" you smiled and walked over to Emily for a hug. You noticed that Spencer still hadn't moved. He hadn't said a word and you didn't blame him. Honestly you thought you deserved it.

"Hey Spence" you talked from across the table

"Hi" he forced a smile and looked back to the rest of the team

Your smile was beginning to disappear but you ignored the old feelings that were beginning to resurface. You pointed to the rest of the new people at the table "You guys must be Tara Lewis and Luke Alvez"

"Nice to meet you" Tara held her hand out and you took a firm grip to shake

"You can call that guy newbie" Penelope elbowed your arm

"Ignore her" Luke flashed a bright smile at you as you shook his hand

"Okay should we set you up" Emily walked up behind you

"Yep" you began to follow her out but looked back to see Spencer rubbing his eyes with his palms. You chose to put it aside for now and brought your attention back to Emily "So unit chief huh"

"yes I was hesitant at first but I'm glad I took the job"

"Hopefully I can say the same soon" she shut the door as you walked in to her office

"Hey um are sure you are okay with being here"

"Yeah why wouldn't I be" you turned to watch her walk towards her desk

"Well when you left it was so random and sudden and I never really knew why"

"That was years ago, you don't need to worry about what happened" After all these years you assumed Hotch told the team why you had suddenly disappeared. You sat down and continued to talk about your re-instatement. After finishing up discussing many details you decided to go to the break room for some coffee. You walked in and saw Spencer, once he saw you he immediately put his mug in the sink and began to walk towards the exit

"Wait" you grabbed his wrist but he yanked his hand away

"What" his tone was mean and aggressive

"I--I just want to say hi" he didn't say anything back but you looked him closely. He didn't look like the same man that you left. He let his facial hair grow and his hair was now messy, less taken care of but he made it work. The bags under his eyes were darker and you could see all the pain in his eyes. You could see that the terror of this job had finally corrupted his mind. "You look different"

"Yeah prison really does the trick" he wouldn't even look at you so he turned and began to walk away.

Prison?

"I didn't mean any harm Spence, I want us to be friends"

Before he could exit he turned to look at you "Don't call me that"

"I'm sorry I left the way I did but-"

"Oh yeah a letter explaining how we weren't real and we didn't mean anything to each other" he smiled but there was no humor behind it "You dropped off the face of the earth with no warning or anything just a stupid piece of paper sitting on my counter, you left just like my dad and just like Gideon. So I really don't feel like being friends with you"

"Spencer" you called out but it was too late. He had already walked away.

You wished that you hadn't left on a such a bad note but you had always blamed the person that shattered you. The person who ruined you and Spencer's story.
