Riko x Sister! Reader

Start from the beginning

After we had our finished list and looked up patterns for each item, we went to Riko's room where she had her massive storage box just for knitting supplies and a chaotic hunt for all the right colours and types of yarn ensued.

"Is it this red for Kagami-kun?"

"No, it's got to be darker."

"Which kind of yarn is this?!"

"I forgot I had that!"

"Wait, I need that one!"

"Was it this one or this??"

"They look exactly the same!"

Finding all of the yarn took way too long for its own good. Riko found a smaller box and a bunch of ziploc bags so we could organize the bundle of yarn we had amassed after our hour long search.

"Which one do you want to work on first?" Riko asked, her hands on her hips as she stared down at the box.

"I'll do Kagami-kun's," I decided. "I want to practice my colourwork."

She nodded and passed me the bag of yarn for Kagami's gloves, picking out Furihata's for herself and we both took our supplies to the living room and finally settled down to begin knitting. The only reason I wasn't as passionate about it as Riko was was because it could be tedious and tiresome at times. We could start at exactly the same time and knit the same item and she would still finish it faster than me. But she did her best to make it enjoyable for me and we talked the entire time we knitted until our dad advised us to go to sleep.

Riko yawned as she set her needles down which made me yawn in turn. I was halfway through the second glove, and Riko had completed half of Furihata's hat. She rubbed her eyes and checked the time. "Gosh, it's past ten already?" She asked, stretching her arms. "No wonder I'm so tired."

"Me too." I yawned again and started to pack my knitting back into its bag. The stripes were coming out pretty good and I was actually proud of it. I hoped Kagami would like them. He was always complaining about the cold so these gloves would be nice to give him.

Riko took the knitting to her room and I went to do my nightly routine and dress in my pajamas before retiring to my room. But instead of going to bed, I reached for a box I had hidden in my closet and opened it. Inside lay a gift I had been working on for Riko which I had started all the way back in the summer: a cardigan much like the Seirin girl's uniform but instead of navy blue it was white, the cuffs and collar edged with black and red just like the basketball team's colours. Now all I had left to finish was the neckline and to sew everything together, so I picked it up and began to knit a few more painstaking rows before calling it a night.

The days passed and everyday after finishing school and homework, Riko and I would sit down and knit. On some days she'd put on classical music during our knitting hours and on others she'd quiz me on random trivia for things I liked or told me about how basketball practice was going for the club. Whatever she did, she always made sure I was engaged. I didn't mind knitting with her honestly. It had been a long while since we did any sort of project together. I had to thank the basketball club for that. Without them I wouldn't be here, happily knitting away as my sister rattled off about how stupid Kagami and Kuroko were when it came to schoolwork, though an affectionate smile twitched her lips as she spoke about them.

And after each evening I would continue Riko's cardigan in secret. It was amazing she hadn't found out yet, but she was pretty oblivious at times. At the end of the two weeks with winter break right around the corner, we had completed every single gift for the Seirin Basketball Club. I had also finished Riko's gift on time as well.

The night before the 'gift-giving day' as Riko had dubbed it, she and I were wrapping up all the gifts for the next day.

"Riko-chan, you wrap these," I said, giving her Hyuga's and Kiyoshi's gifts.
