The alarm clock started beeping, indicating that it was time to rise and head off to work; though it was still dark as the sun had not yet risen, you could still see the other half of the bed being occupied by your boyfriend, Alfred F. Jones. The American man slightly rustled, however didn't wake as he slept late no matter what day it was.

You went to the bathroom and turned on the light to prepare for the day, closing the door behind you. After finishing your morning routine, you exited the bathroom fully dressed in one of your many suits, and turned off the light. Making your way over to your sleeping boyfriend you gave him a light kiss on his cheek, making him smile to let you known that even though he was still asleep, he reacted to your affection nonetheless, letting you know that the bond between you two was unbreakable; or so it would seem. This was surely going to be another day at the office.

-TWO MONTHS LATER-

Once again the alarm clock sounded for you to begin your morning routine, however this time it was a bit different. You hadn't been at home as much and the amount of affection you had been giving to America had been declining. Even though he was still in roughly the same place on the bed that you shared as boyfriend, he may as well have been a mile away with the amount of distance that had grown in your hearts. There were many other things that America couldn't put his finger on when he was awake, and you two were interacting with each other at home, the grocery store, or wherever it happened to be. He wanted to figure it out, however it would have to wait until you got home that evening. All other things being equal, you finished off your morning routine, and headed off to the office.

-This time skip brought to you by Monty Python at the Hollywood Bowl, 1982. Seriously, it's awesome! Watch it later.-

After yet another hard day at work, you finally arrived home, pulling into the driveway, setting the transmission in neutral, letting the clutch out, and setting the parking brake, you let the engine idle for a few moments before shutting the car off and removing your keys from the ignition switch. Now that the car was off you selected reverse, making sure that it wouldn't go anywhere you didn't want it to. Your thoughts returned to six years ago when you bought this 2007 Ford Focus: it's cherry red, with the street appearance package; the spoiler, the impressive front end, and the sporty Duratec engine. You remembered how this little car caught the eye of a certain American whose affection for bright colors and fast cars made you stand out to him... And now in just a few moments, it looked like it may be coming to an end.

Usually you'd be overjoyed that today is Friday, however it didn't make any difference now as what you needed to say to Al wouldn't be easy, no matter what day of the week it was. You kept both hands on the steering wheel, and slowly slouched forward so that your forehead was now resting on it too.

"I've gotta tell Al... Better get going since this news isn't going to deliver itself..."

Straightening yourself up, your reached over to the passenger seat and grabbed your briefcase, finally exiting and locking the car: two taps on the key fob flashed the turn signals and honked the horn, letting you know that the car was locked and the alarm was set. Walking the short concrete pathway from the driveway to the door was nerve wracking. Despite your tension, you walked to the door inserted your key, and unlocked it finally walking inside, closing it behind you.

A familiar voice greeted you from the kitchen, "Yo, _____! Welcome home, lover!" Considering everything else, his voice was quite full of happiness and the love that was so familiar to you. You sat down on the couch, setting your briefcase down, then loosening your tie; a drawn-out groan of fatigue  grew in, then exited your throat.

"I know what that means! Somebody is ready for the weekend!," Alfred quipped from the kitchen. He continued to cook as cheerfully and dutifully as always, however it was known to him that something was definitely amiss. The usual warmth that you showed him, the incredible sex you had with him, and the now profound distance between the two of you seemingly growing by the minute.

"Al," you called from the living room, "Will you come in here please? We need to talk."

Your usually energetic boyfriend walked in and sat on the couch parallel to the chair you currently occupied. Even though you watched him walk in, your eyes soon were looking down at the oriental rug that the two of you had bought together when you first moved in together, and which now lay on the floor of the house you bought yourself three years ago when you beat out twenty other people for the job you currently work in.

You finally looked up at him, your ____-colored eyes meeting his ocean blues. You looked at him for a moment, he was wearing his old Gakuen Hetalia school uniform, and a vertically-striped green and white apron over that. It was him doing little things like wearing his school uniform that small gestures thought they were, they had some of the biggest impact on you. While this particular action usually preceded the two of you deciding to have some "fun" together, with you always his seme, today it didn't make any difference.

You looked back down at the rug again for a few moments, wringing your hands together in anticipation of what you were going to say. When you looked back up at Alfred, he was sitting up very straight, and at the moment seemed to be about as flexible as a steel I beam. The thing that really caught your attention was that his hands were tightly gripping the part of the apron which was covering his lap. Those hands... Those beautiful hands which held yours so many times were now seemingly made of cold stone.

You began softly, "Al, I know that things have been getting difficult lately. We're seeming to continually grow apart, and I don't know what's drawing us together right now."

Your eyes had trailed a bit, as had his, however you both now looked at each other, and it seemed as though the tears forming in his eyes were coming from the depths of the ocean his eyes reminded everyone of, especially you. His hands finally started to look softer, though they were beginning to knead the fabric of his apron as he was now occupied with tremendous fear and worry. You could almost feel the terror seeping from his very being even though the distance between you two was no less than eight or nine feet.

On Monday, I'll be leaving, and I don't know if or when I'll be back."
