A loud ring from my pocket cut through the silent battle I was having in my head. I smiled when I saw the caller ID and my heart ached in sadness, it was Mama. Even when we were miles apart, she knew when I was not okay.

I ended the call and kept the phone again. I would face this challenge alone- face the man I loved once upon a time, alone.

What I was about to do scared me like there was a katana threatening to slice through the hollow of my neck. I was about to sever a connection- to cut a string of power that someone held over my entire being. I didn't know what I was going to do next, but I knew I had to take this leap.

And like a middle finger raised to the face of the fear and hesitation that crawled through my veins, I spoke.

"You're free"
