"I just don't understand why she's going. I'm a board member I'm obviously capable of doing a mission like this by myself," Laurie complained while raking his hand through his brown fluffy hair.
"Would you shut up? We're an unstoppable team that's why. I could do this mission on my own too," I responded sticking my tongue out at him. The gruff teenager rolled his eyes at me. Typical. I don't know where this angsty teen shit came from, but it's starting to piss me off. He's been like this for the whole six months we've been assigned together, and I wish he would get over himself.
"Enough. You will be working on the same mission, but you'll be separated for the majority of it. This is important I need you two to work like a real team. Sylvia, this is your chance to move up, then you won't have to work with Laurence as much," President Williams said to us while rubbing his temple. The older man probably wishes he could drop kick the both of us right now, but who could blame him? I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to take Laurie out either. This man is so well respected though, I've never seen anything get under his skin.
"Say less."
"Shut up."
"Quit following me."
"Laurie, I might actually beat the shit out of you. Our desks are right next to each other, I have to fill out the same forms as you before I can leave," I said, using every ounce of my being not to go feral. I quickly pulled out my desk chair, the faster I can get out of here the better. I hate how Laurie's desk is right in front of mine too, it's like we can never get away from each other.
"Don't call me Laurie, its Laurence," he said shooting me a glare with his piercing green eyes. I can't stand this man. Not only is he a massive dick but he's also one of the hottest men I've ever seen, and he knows it. He's a lot taller than me, at least 6'5, and has the whole brown flowy hair thing going on. He always dresses like he came straight out of a magazine, for example today he's wearing a button up dress shirt with a black crewneck over top with khaki pants. The way he glares at me makes my cheeks heat up and I immediately duck my head down into my papers.
"And enough swearing, Sylvia. What if the president heard that? You're a League member now, at least try to act like one," he said with disgust dripping from his words.
You're a league member now, at least try to act like one.
It's not like I even had a choice. I didn't ask to be born like this. Everyone calls what we have a gift but trust me it's the furthest thing from it. People like Laurie, me, and the whole League are called uniques. Less than 20% of the population are born with a unique, The League was founded in the heart of Amster City, New York, for uniques to work and help with cases the FBI can't handle. Maybe I should explain what a unique is. A unique is a special ability that one possesses. I've never seen the same unique twice, hence the name. I never thought mine was that powerful until Laurie trained me, I guess that's the only good thing about being paired with him, well that and the fact that he's basically a model.
The League is highly respected and it's kind of a big deal to be an agent here, but I never asked for this. Eighteen years on earth and this is what I have to show for? Following a grumpy teenager around and solving stupid unique cases. I kind of miss living on the street, at least it was fun. But this case, this case will defiantly be worth the wait. Plus, it's a way for me to move and get rid of this partnership that neither partner enjoys.
