AUDEN.

My character jumps across the world, uncle Landon following me close behind. "We should go see if there's any loot left in tilted. Be prepared. There might be some people left." I explain, focusing on my character's surroundings.

"Before we do that we should camp at this drop and see if we can get some kills. If anyone is at tilted, they'd go for this drop." Uncle Landon says and I nod my head. Uncle Landon is very good at fortnite. I love when I can play with him. I look up when I hear a phone ring and I straighten my posture, setting my uncle Landon's switch down. "Is that my dad?"

"I don't know, bud. Let's see." He says, reaching for his phone and putting it to his ear. "Hello?"

I look at him with impatience, leaning in to maybe hear the conversation. Uncle Landon looks straight at me as he nods. "He's doing good. We're playing fortnite." He then chuckles lightly, "he really is." He pauses, I'm guessing my father is telling him something, and he nods his head. "Alright I'll tell him. I'm sure he'll understand."

I can't help but blurt, "understand what?"

"Hold on, bud—" he gets up from his seat and begins to walk to the kitchen. No! My chance to know what's going on is leaving! I get up to follow him but he turns around and shakes his head at me. "yeah, I get it. I think it's best for him to stay here until you get everything else figured out." He says as he enters the kitchen, taking my chance with him.

But I don't want to stay here. I want to know what's wrong. Why can't I just know?

EMERY.

"Take me back to the hotel. I don't want to do it." I say as Cole drives out of the hotel parking lot. He looks at me with a disappointed face and I roll my eyes. I don't need him looking at me like that.

"You promised your dad you were going to meet him there."

"No I didn't. I said I'd see him tomorrow. I could've meant from anywhere."

"I'm not turning around." He replies, and I scoff.

"Don't put your foot down too hard, you might crash." I glance out the window, but I can feel Cole look at me gravely. He looks back at the road, not muttering another word.

COLE.

I get why Emery is being such an asshole right now, but it's kind of getting on my nerves. I'm trying to help her right now, I'd like a bit of kindness. If anything she could keep her mouth shut if she has nothing nice to say.

I push the frustrating thoughts from my mind as I drag her inside the hospital, asking where Tessa Scott's room is for her.

If anything, I think we both woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning. I can't get those damned "she doesn't love you" thoughts out of my head. Of course she doesn't fucking love me, we're friends. If anything, I've allowed her to use me as one of her fuck-buddies, no matter how much I told myself I wouldn't let her.
